Post by: JaimeC on October 17, 2018, 09:31:52 AM
Update is to support MY19.  Guess it won't be too much longer before we learn the details.

Does the new version of the app give any indication what the new 2019 models will be like?

My personal issue is that I won't get any new apps unless I agree to the Google Store's terms of service and after I read the entire agreement I just can't do that.  :o So no new apps for me.  ::)

Previous version allowed me to email the logs from my '13FX, but they would not parse.  New version crashes after downloading the log, never gets to the "Send Email" screen!

And all this time I was thinking nobody ever bothered to read all that legal garbage . . .

So what did the section say where you refused to agree?

The terms of service agreement went on and on, but when I got to the section that said they could download anything that they wanted at any time without my permission, I decided that was not my idea of good customer service. Naturally it also had a section about my agreeing that they could keep track of my movements. I bet if I read further it would also say that I agree to hold Google harmless should anything happen to me or to them because of my use of one of their apps. The agreement had a lot of other crap in it, all benefiting Google and nothing that I could see that benefited me, other than allowing me to download the apps in their "store".

Now every time I turn on my cell phone I get a notice telling me that I have 7 updates that need my approval. When I click on the update window, Google says that I need to agree to their terms of service and when I "decline", the window along with all of the app updates, goes away.  ;D

The only apps on my phone I use is the Zero app and the Google Hangup app to make phone calls to my daughter. I do have other apps on my phone that I have tried to delete but the system won't let me delete them, so I just leave them alone and don't let them try to update. So I turn on my phone when I need to do check on my Zero and make a phone call, the rest of the time I keep it off and save my battery.  ;)

Back on topic:  What's the secret to updating the bike's firmware with the app?  If I have the bike on the charger, everything links up, but then it tells me I have to take the bike OFF the charger.

If the bike is off the charger, the app times out trying to verify if the bike has an update ready.  WTF???

I checked the unofficial Zero manual (because the OFFICIAL owner's manual was pretty useless in this regard) but couldn't find anything helpful.

In order to install a Zero update you have to have your bike's battery well charged up, the charger can not be plugged in and the ignition must be turned on. Once the app starts downloading the firmware update, all of the symbols on the dash will flash like crazy. This will probably go on for at least 30 minutes, until the flashing stops. Then you will likely get a message on your app that says that the update failed and to try again.  When you give it another try, you will be told that your firmware is up to date and no new updates are available. You will then find that the update did load properly, in spite of the original "failed" message on your app. And so it goes.....   ::)

I'll give it another go this week.  I ran the battery down to less than 10% today so it's in the garage recharging now.

Came across this open source google core replacement, allows you to use google apps and other apps but use an open source version that is a fraction of the size and battery usage.

https://microg.org

and there is  a version of linageOS with it built in.

https://lineage.microg.org

also their is f-Droid an catalog of open source apps.

Same here, before sending mail the app puts the file also local to: \Android\data\com.ZeroMotorcycles\files
All the previous send files can be found there also.

Can everybody else see their battery voltage in the battery section of the app?  I have a small burner phone that I use just for the Zero.  After the 2019 update I can't scroll up enough to see the voltage box anymore. Just the top edge of the numbers.

I just checked my bike with the latest Zero app that was updated to my phone a couple of days ago.  I don't know if it was for the 2019 bikes or not. I can't notice any difference between the old version and the new version of the app.  I can still see the entire battery condition screen. Right now it is showing 115 Volts with a full charged battery, cell balance is between 1 and 2 mA.

Thanks Richard, if it just updated and the app has the new logo then I'm sure it's the same one I have.  I guess it's just my phone then.
Makes me feel special.  :)

You called it.  That is EXACTLY what happened.  Looks like I'm all up to date now.
