Title: PSA: SR/S footpegs will fit on S/SR/DS/DSR bikes without modification
Post by: flynnstig82r on March 17, 2021, 08:12:12 PM
I just wanted to make a public service announcement that I was able to put the low SR/S footpegs on my 2017 SR using the existing bolt and spring, with no modifications necessary. Thanks to Electric Cowboy for suggesting that they should fit.

I have only ridden a short distance since putting them on and the riding position didn't feel much different yet, but I am willing to bet that I will notice when I take a longer ride, as knee comfort was my biggest complaint about the stock SR riding position.

Where did you get the SR/S footpegs?

Since they're a stock part, I'm assuming they can be ordered from AF-1 like any other Zero part you might need.

One would think so. I got them from SF Moto, my local Zero dealer, but AF1 probably has them too. I paid about $20 for them.

All I could find at AF1 was these. (https://www.af1racing.com/Zero-75-Inch-Lowering-Pegs-for-Stock-Rearsets)

That looks like the right part but for a helluva lot more than just $20.00.  Somebody's parts department screwed up somewhere...

https://www.af1racing.com/Zero-75-Inch-Lowering-Pegs-for-Stock-Rearsets comes with modified brake lever.  Interested in hearing if it will be needed or even fit on the SR.

Thanks, but the buggy software on AF1 Racing will not let me order anything. It says my password is wrong. I use recover and it says it sends me an email with the code, but it never sends it, but my email is correct there.

I finally got myself locked out.

It finally  sent a link to my email and when I went to use the link it says:

"Wrong password recovery token"

Whatever that means.

Okay, I got them ordered. 27-08139 and 27-08140.

"Wrong Token"  meant I tried  twice but used the first link as the 2nd link was a lot slower to get to my email. When the 2nd link  finally did, I was able to use it to get a link to a new password.

So the real problem was it was very slow to get to my email. More than five minutes.

I’m a little surprised that a modified lever is needed for the SR/F. I haven’t lowered the lever yet but it seems pretty straightforward according to the unofficial manual. Right now it’s a little high but not unusable. I wouldn’t want to hover my foot over it for more than a few minutes but for normal use it’s not a problem. I’ll try to make the adjustment this weekend and report back.

Is a modified rear brake lever needed?

Not for my 2017 SR. I put them on before I left for Reno last time and I do not notice any difference when I use the rear brake.

But I do notice a little difference in the foot peg position,  now  being a bit better.

No new lever is needed, it adjusts right into place. I finally adjusted my rear lever position after riding with it slightly higher than the foot peg for a couple months. I had just gotten used to angling my foot slightly upwards so I was lazy about figuring out how to adjust it, but it turned how to be a simple matter of loosening a nut and took all of 5 minutes.

If you do need to modify the brake lever it's easily doable. Just remove the knurled shaft and add an extension (either up or down). I used aluminum angle. You can adjust out also, if needed by just adding washers. This is on an S, not sure of how much different other models might be.

Installing these lower pegs on my Zero SR makes for a much more aggressive riding stance when perched up in attack position due to forward rotation.  The core is engaged and more effort is needed for elbows up.  I haven't ran into lean angle limits to scrape peg as these don't have feelers like stock pegs, but foot position needs to be on tippy toes for right-hand switchbacks.
