Renewing a black FXS plastics
« on: April 03, 2021, 11:34:11 AM »

With time and exposure to sun, the plastics of my 2017 FXS have become a bit more white. Any idea of the renew them ? I try a plastics renovator, but it only makes them shiny, it does not remove the grey stains...

I bought a 2017 FXS recently that had badly faded plastics.   I tried several plastic restoring products.  Nothing worked well enough.   So I painted the plastics with a spray can enamel paint.

Nice. How long did it take you ? Does the paint age well with time ?

Took a couple of days.   Mainly because I had to repaint and wet sand due to trying plastic restorer on the plastic first.  I was getting fish eyes in the paint caused by the plastic restorer.   But using primer and wet sanding with 600 grit wet sandpaper eventually took care of that.   I don't know how long the paint will last.   I store my bike in a garage.   The previous owner didn't.  Or if she did, it was outside when she was at work.  The other option was to wrap the plastics or to just buy new plastic. But I wanted the fenders and headlight cover in white too, and Zero doesn't make them in white.

Paint can last longer than the plastics, as long as it's not scuffed.

I think it looks grand!

I painted mine with some Krylon for plastics. Like any paint job the preparation is 90% of it. Scrubbed it with dish soap to remove any mold release or whatever.

Yes - I saw this. Great price. My only problem was that if I ride zero carbon, then I should try to avoid burning oil through new plastics.
But except for this I am a great fan of AF1racing, it saved my Zero more than once !
