Tech Help / Shelley Green presents on Pressure Crimping Connections
« on: September 09, 2022, 01:49:10 AM »

"Shelley Green Pressure Connections Crimping Isnt as Simple as You Thought" from 2019 Hackaday Superconference Hacking conference

I have nothing original to add to this. If you've ever wanted to know the science behind a crimped connection, well there it is! 21 minutes all content and no filler.

I thought they were selling the Storm Bee already in the US but it doesn't seem to be the case yet.
...

Storm demos are just getting to dealers; dealers are apparently taking pre-orders at $10k for delivery end of this month.

"Elon said they were building the Roadster II "NOW" back in 2018.  How's that coming?"

Not sure of this comparison? Is there Ducati footage that Elon (Musk? assumed) claims to be the new Roadster II as well? That would also be misleading.

I don't like the word "scam". What is a better way to express that this is not a real product and the marketing is whack?

I completely reject Shadow renaming this thread.
What the hell "scam" do think there is?

...

I know this forum is littered with dead companies, but I've never seen this kind of obsessed hatred toward a new company that is trying to make some awesome bikes.

Emphasis in bold is my own.

Pretty much this. I don't have an opinion for or against companies with no products on the market. However...

At some point though allowing an entire section of EMF to be cheap SEO for a possible scam is irresponsible to not label it as such. There's as you say some enthusiasm for it but the view from here is it's one user making regular posts about a company that doesn't have any products. There's nothing tangible here to discuss? The linked video is misleading. I'm following what is plain to see here, misleading users of the forum in that manner is not going unnoticed.

Renaming topic as such.

The local Zero-authorized dealership in Reno NV USA circa 2016 is primarily a Polaris dealership and got dropped by Zero. ??? I'm sure this is going to make them crazy to have to service Zero drivetrain again.

"Electric Motorcycles Discord"  o/t but can we get that discord bridged to the Electric Motorcycle chat on Matrix? Who's the discord server owner?

*edit* Found it. Request submitted to the Discord server owner role.

Very different battery voltages are involved here. Not going to work.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Re: Decision Fatigue - FX? FXE? DSR?

...Just to complicate things a bit more Zero has a copyright on a new model ...

Trademark not copyright; This is not a new Taylor Swift album.

Zero FX and DSR 2022 model year may be the last products of Cypher II parts that are getting phased out. Keep this in mind?

Maybe get a Sur Ron X to hold you over 2-3 years until the next generation Zero product lineup settles out? I might even suggest Sur Ron Storm but those are not common. If you are going with EV moto you should get whatever has the most aftermarket and a healthy DIY repair community. EV moped and motorbikes from any brand will be a lot of fun to ride on trails. Spending 2-3 times more money doesn't really equal more fun on trails at 25mph, it will just be heavier and more cumbersome to transport to get to the trail.

IIRC the Aerostich factory famously had a Zero FX and published their story about it "Zero below Zero";  was it a warming pad they used on the battery?  Could be an option is to put a warming pad on the battery and sew up a neoprene cover for when you want to charge it in cold temps.

Such clear and useful photos unfortunately with a repair mistake that can lead to fire. Yikes.  :o  12Vdc ? (not equal to) 125Vdc

Great to see Zero getting involved with the forum...
That account (Zeromotorcycles) is indeed registered with a zeromotorcycles.com email alias in the forum registration database. In plain language: seems legitimate? This forum is not rich enough code-wise to assign "verified" badges and the like, so always be careful handing your information over to any forum user taking the position as being a sales and support vendor or manufacturer representative.  ::)

Not the first time we've seen vendors on the forum, obviously.

Tech Help / Re: Info required for first conversion
« on: November 08, 2021, 05:31:32 AM »
EMF forums here tend to coalesce on commercially-available vehicles as a starting point. The "endless-sphere" web forums are known as a valuable resource for DIY conversions, and in great depth too.

Some of the secret sauce? Motor controllers! Quite a lot of motor controllers exist, and almost surely the controller you decide on will determine limitations of battery and motor selection, also just plain limitations as the motor controller may depend on computer programming that you are forbidden from modifying or even having knowledge of.

To that end I suggest first determine if the community-supported VESC brand of controllers would work for your application? If yes, do that. There are a wealth of examples for VESC-based powertrain on all manner of vehicles. If no, then consider taking the powertrain from any existing EV that has sufficient quantity of units "in the wild" you would be able to find support and advice about it from enthusiasts.

There are ready-to-go conversion kits from Luna Cycle shop based on the BBSHD e-bike unit. Wrecked Zero motorcycles often have a fully operable powertrain that can be salvaged as the frame cracked or some other disqualifying reason the bike was totaled out ; however you then depend on authorized dealers since there are secret sauce programming codes for the Zero motorcycle powertrain no one but dealers can interact with.

Looking for something complete? Expand your search to include: Sur Ron X, KTM Freeride e-XC, Cake Kalk OR, Sur Ron Storm (delayed to 2022/2023), Alta Motors Redshift MX (out of production / defunct manufacturer).
