A reminder that the torque listed for gas bikes is for 5th or 6th gear, not lower gears, the gears multiple the torque, so an R1 has way more torque than the SR.

Middle 4 seconds would be OK, but 6.5 seconds for the SR with power tank would be slow. The Ninja 300 time is listed as 5.6 seconds so you expect the SR to be much faster than that. I'm wondering about the new S model at 313 lbs. That time may be pretty good too. That's the model I'm interested in.

The Zeros are getting too heavy for me, so I am hoping there are weight reductions. I have never been one to try and make a touring bike out of these. A bike at 325 lbs. with a combined range of 150 miles and top sustained speed of 75 mph would be perfect for me. The huge gains in lithium battery technology are probably behind us.

« on: May 21, 2016, 12:39:49 AM »
Seat ht. is often an issue. Zero needs to just offer a lower seat option so people don't have to try different stuff.  Anything over 33 inches is too tall for many people including me. My Honda CB300F has a seat ht. of 30.7 in. but has a lower seat option from Honda that drops it down 1". I never like to mess with the suspension. You could trade that Zero in on 5 new CB300Fs with the proper seat ht.

The only problem with some of these suggestions is the added weight. These are not touring bikes and won't be for the foreseeable future. I would want my new Zero to be lighter in fact. That and a modest increase in range. Sustained 75 mph with a 120 mile range at that speed, max weight of 340 lbs., and max seat ht. of 31.5 in. for an S or SR model and I'm in.

I'm surprised you would have issues with demos. Generally the demos have the bugs worked out. I think most of the issues have been with brand new bikes.

Stuff like this is not going to help sell electric vehicles. The infrastructure is not there in many areas. Add to that the problem of them not working or not being available when you want them and that is more than reason enough to not own an electric vehicle you have to charge anywhere but your own home. Seems like a business opportunity for a big oil company like Exxon, Shell, etc. to add charging stations to their service stations where they can be maintained and monitored 24 hours. Just charge whatever you need to recoup your investment. If someone pays out $150,000 for a car, they aren't going to quibble about $20 to recharge their car.

There are definitely some 2015 SRs out there...one is a demo at AF1 racing and the other is on the showroom at Alamo Cycle Plex in San Antonio. Regarding the smaller battery. I would want the smaller battery myself. The bike is lighter and FASTER and costs less. As someone pointed out, you can't make the battery big enough to work as a touring bike, so why try. Just use it locally and charge at home and be happy. I look at the small increase in range as more of a gimmick. Sure range is an issue, but that has more to do with charging speed PLUS infrastructure than battery size. If I had a gas bike that went 60 miles on a tank of gas, that wouldn't be an issue for me...hey wait, there are gas bikes, that only go 60 miles on a tank. Gas stations are everywhere.

« on: October 15, 2015, 02:58:20 AM »
My 2011 Zero S had a fan that would come on quite a lot and stay on long after the bike was turned off. When Zero improved the motor, the next year, they dropped the fan. I had some issues with my 2013 S not charging on a hot day after a ride, so I think the heating fix will have to address both the battery and the motor. Even though the bike might run and charge, all this heat can't be good for it. I think they are going to have to circulate some coolant to both the battery and the motor even though nobody wants to deal with that extra system and the weight it would add. Zero needs to test these bikes in a Texas summer. N. California is not a good test ground.

Buy Sell Trade / Re: Wtb 2013+ S or DS

That 2013 S the dealer in Austin had was my bike. It was in perfect condition. I think he had it about 3 weeks before it sold, so it wasn't a long time. He seems to go through used bikes quickly. I know he's sold about 10 of my bikes pretty quickly....some in a day or two. I did post on the forum as soon as I traded the bike in.

Agni made the 95R brushed motors for the 2010 models. I wouldn't recommend those since the brushed burned out, but they might make some others that would work. I remember pricing one a couple years ago and they priced it in pounds sterling as I recall and it was too expensive...more than Zero would charge. Really if all you need is the electric motor, I think you have a lot of choices since there are a ton of electric motors of all sizes out there. The challenge is going to be everything else..gears, charging, controller, cooling, etc. If I were going to use motors on a kart, I would go with 2 motors...one for the front wheels and one for the back.

That storage area was one of the best things about the bike for me. I kept my phone, glasses, and cut down a McDonald's cup holder so I could secure a soda refill to go in there. It's about 8" deep...large enough for a large drink with plenty of room left over around it.

That sucks. At least it is under warranty. I was spoiled cause my dealer was 3 miles away and the owner lives 3 blocks away, so I was well taken care of. This is why I keep hoping a major motorcycle company buys Zero or a good alternative to Zero from one of the Japanese companies comes out since those dealerships seem to be everywhere. Of course Polaris hasn't done anything with Brammo that I am aware of. We were hoping all the Polaris dealerships would be stocking, selling, and servicing the Empulse R. Yamaha seems closest to releasing an electric motorcycle unless Harley counts. More people would buy Zeros if there were more dealers, but there are few dealers because there aren't enough people buying Zeros.

Wait, you bought a demo but didn't ride it first? That's the huge advantage of buying the demo...you know it works and if something is not right, you know that too cause you just rode it! I bought 2 Zero demos and test rode both of them before buying. So why would you need a PDI on a bike that people are already test riding every day?
