Pics and Vids / Custom Zero DS paint repost from 2015

Reposting my 2014 Zero DS paint, with matching helmet and leathers. Hoping to to encourage others to share their electric creations!

I posted these photos 5 years ago, of my bathypelagic angler viperfish and gas plasma lure fish-fairing. The seat is ostrich leather by a local auto seat upholsterer. There is a SoundRacer system with twin 40w speakers and a shelby cobra profile! I installed the plasma generators and black-anodized most silver mechanical parts, and it's totally cool at night!

I wear a shark modular helmet painted as a deep sea diver hardhat, and my leathers have patches I designed, of angler wrangler demolition company, founded the first year of electric motorcycle patent in 1895.

I have my ICE bike on a battery tender, because if not the damn thing struggles to start if it sits for more than a week (parasitic power drain probably).  Considering the negligible energy usage when the zero hits 100%, Im leaving mine plugged in per the manual...

I don't understand the "starting" reference,,, and assume it won't boot correctly when keying the power, a more serious problem than parasitic power loss while sitting. Our DS bikes are unplugged for 1-6 weeks during travel or cool weather, and power loss is very minor, as measured by the display, usually less than 1%/week.

My wife and I purchased 2 of the 2014 DS models. Her's has been great, outside of a contactor failure on the ride out of the dealer (I dropped off the bike, and the manufacturer delivered it to my home, 40 miles away).  Mine has experienced chronic charging indicator problems, but we can live with that. We also keep them unplugged, remembering to plug in the night before a ride.

Model Year- 2014
Model- DS
Purchase date (mo/yr)- ~07/2014
Mileage- ~1500
Modifications? If so, what?- Changed tires upon purchase.
Primary terrain during use? touring through the Santa Cruz mountains
Max/min/average ambient temperatures during use- 70s-90s.

We always return, after 3-4 hours of riding, with >30% charge, since most speeds are under 45 mph.

The original seat angle also bothered me. I was always sliding into the tank, and missed the raked-back or bucket seats of my other bikes.

I had this seat made of ostrich skin (to mimic the painted fish skin), and you can see it is more of a bucket. It's far more comfortable although, a 6' 1", I'd prefer the seat moved back several inches, if it was possible.

Thanks, guys, and it's been this way since new. Other than a nuisance, it really hasn't bothered me, but I am happy to learn that others experience it, too!

I have 2 of the 2014 DS. One of them has a charging issue that BMW/Zero of San Jose has, so far, been unable to repair. When not using the bike for >10 days, or so, the display will be flashing, as in this youtube:

Turning the bike power key has no influence. Unplugging the AC charging cable, then turning the bike switch on and off, will reset the display to a normal mode. Sometimes, the charge indication is as low as 90%, if the bike was unused for several weeks. New FW was installed 2 months ago, and still a problem.

The bike, otherwise, is fine. But, it is a hassle to remember to unplug it, then plug it back in the night before a ride. Anyone else have a similar problem? Perhaps the contactor unit? I'll bring it back to the BMW/Zero shop soon, and offer any suggestions. Thanks!
