is it possible with or without modification to install the 3.3 kilowatt power tank in a 2016 SR?
-
since posting this I've learned that the 2017 models have a new controller which I assume is why 3.3 kilowatt power tank is incompatible?
-
Somewhere in the new 2017 Zero material it said that the power tank would soon be available to retrofit to 2014-2016 Zero's as well as in the 2017 models.

Oooh, interesting. I'm curious what the upgrade would cost...

Currently the zero shop is only listing the 2017 models as compatible.

It might be incompatible to older models due to BMS/MBB changes, but otherwise I don't know why it shouldn't work on older models as well. Time will tell.

Probably...BMS and MBB got new faster processors in 2017 which could explain why ZF3.3 power tank isn't compatible with older bikes.

Hmmmm interesting... maybe I can overclock the processor?? ::)

Faster processors? Really? :p

The ZF3.3 Power Tank is backward-compatible with 2014-later Zero S/DS models.
Note that the Power Tank accessory includes both the module and new "tank" bodywork, which means the ZF3.3 version will come with painted plastics, not the molded-in color of 2014-16. No problem, the paint looks great and is really durable. However, if you insist on all our body panels perfectly matching, in addition to the "tank" plastics with the Power Tank, you'll also want to order the tail section.
PS - Obligatory reminder that I am a Zero employee.

"backward-compatible with 2014-later Zero S/DS models."?
Does this include backward compatibility with SR?
-
If you're serious, call Zero customer support to confirm compatibility, then your dealer for the purchase and install.

I did and the Zero rep said the 3.3KW PT is backward compatible with the '16 but they're out of them till the end of year... :-\

3.3kw is disappointing.

3.3kw is disappointing.
How so? Do you have one, if so what additional range do you see?
-
No, just that to take all that tank space and just give you 3.3kw is generally disappointing. That's why I didn't consider one for very long. I gave up my tank space, got 9.9kw charging.
