Hi there

I wonder about the experience of others, riding an SR/F in cold temperature.

First:
I have to park my SR/F outside, covered only with a hud.

Last winter I once needed to do some chores at a temperature of -3 Celsius (I don't own a car).
The 12V battery failed completely and I had to wait for warmer temperatures of >5 Celsius for quite a while.

I then changed the 12V battery in Summer at the dealer with an original battery. Dealer said, I wouldn't have the problem next winter.

This winter I need the bike for commuting. Temperatures went down and the bike was out as always.
It was a whole day at 0 Celsius and it left me on the way home - showed several different failure codes. I assumed it was a temperature problem. I waited a while, failure codes and messages changed finally to the message, the 12V battery being heated up.
After some minutes waiting at the road side, I could ride again - for may be 2 or 3 km until the same game started over again. And 1 or 2 km after that even again. After that I reached home. The "Check Engine Light" was activated with the first error codes and never went away, even when I could ride inbetween the 'failure-episodes'. I turned the bike off and left it, knowing that the Check-Engine-Light still was acitve when I turned the bike off.

Quite an unpleasant situation, being in a snowstorm in heavy laobur traffic being left by the bike.

I'm aware of the 'Cold and Hot Weather Considerations' in the manual. However - I still was within the recommendations.

I know - best thing would be to store it in a heated garage. But I don't have that ...

I'll wait for warmer temperatures and am hoping the Check-Enginge-Light is gone after a day in temperatures of >5 Celsius. Meanwhile I need to use public transportation which quadruples the time for coummuting ... :-(.

Nonetheless I wonder aobut experiences in such cold weather situations.

Any development on your issue?

I had the same problem with my 2020 SR/F early on.
My switch was changed even before the official recall action from Zero.
Things were good for the time but the problem came up agin one year before.
I told the the dealer. He cleaned the contact in the switch, put some 'contact spray' on it - and the problem was gone.

Thanks for all the answers.

This Saturday the belt will be changed at the same time I'll get a new back tire.
I'm at >46'000 km now - did the 'Route des Grandes Alpes' both ways with the old one.

However - I'm happy to have the new one on the bike next week.

I think I would... Belt's snap without warning. Even perfect looking ones. Keep your old one as an emergency spare?

The old one I could try to sell at eBay. I'd write: Proved to be healthy for > 40'000 km  :P

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Re: SR/F only charges to 97%
« on: June 08, 2023, 09:19:30 PM »

  • the bike charges up to 100%, does the loadbalancing and shuts down the charging session (dashboard is off)
  • Next morning you switch on ignition. Dashboard indicates 97%
I tried to re-charge again. The bike kicks off a charging session and charges with very low Amps may be 60 seconds. After this the SOC jumps to 100% in the dashboard and stops the charging session.

Exactly the same with me:
SR/F Premium with aditional fast charger, showes 98%. Charging at home with 3 phase 400V 16A.
In my case it already does it sometimes 1 h after finishing the charging (completely shot down).
That behaviour started after installing the newest firmware.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / SR/F - change belt with 43'000 km?
« on: June 08, 2023, 08:51:17 PM »
Hi

I'm at 43'000 now with my SR/F. My dealer asked me if I ever had changed my drive belt.
I did not and he told me, I should. I know that Zero recommends to change it after 37'000 km.
Somewhere I read that it is not necessary to change if it looks ok - which mine does.

I should mention that 80 - 90% of the time I drive in Eco-Mode. Sports-Mode I have tried three times only for seconds in order to experience the immense torque.
I'm no technitian but I think driving in Eco-Mode would not put the belt under the same stress as it does with the other modes.

Well - I have a spare belt at home for more than a year now. I plan a next drive to Slovenia (2'000 km both ways) and am considering to change it before I go - together with a new back-tire.
If I don't change it before the journey, I certainly will take it with me.

What are your thoughts about it?

[quote Driving flat or on down a slope, the speed is maintained. Driving uphills on the other hand, my speed would slightly drop in proportion of the grade, typically between 5-10 %. Annoying, especially when I am the head vehicle.
[/quote]

Exactly my experinece. I wonder, why it's not possible to get a steady speed uphil. It's annoying.

I'm 59 ... and will have to change it. Oh man, why are they doing this?

I really hope they will improve it - or just do it again as it was.

SoC so small and speed twice ... - I just don't understand why ...

10
I've seen it on other bikes - and I really don't want to change. Really not.
I don't need to list all the reasons why not - others have done it.

However - I need the Park Mode. So I will have to change. It's annoying ....

The video shows a situation where it is very unlikely that I will need motor assistance for going backward. The typical case for me, encountered less than 10 times of the last three years, is after charging to go back up from a steep garage entrance which is too narrow for a U-turn.

Oh yes - that was one of these situations where I found myself.
Had to fetch a guest of the near restaurant to help me out.

It seems, you are in the same position with your SR/F 2020 as I am: I want (need) the parking mode, but I don't want the new dash design.
What do you think regarding the new dash design now that you have it?

« on: July 31, 2022, 07:26:20 PM »
The new App version 2.2.6 on my Android can't find the new FW (seraches and seraches endlessly).
I tried a direct an unsuccessfull update by dashboard once. Now the second one is in work. If that fails also, I'll wait for the update for the next dealer visit.

The bike runs smooth so far, with the exeption of:
- crazy SOC showing up sometimes, especially when riding fast on the freeway: showing a fast drain of the battery with an SOC of 4%, 20 min. later, after giving the bike some rest, without charging, showing 17% (my main concern).
- crazy target charging (goal set to 80% it's charging to 100% but the next morning showing 81%).
- unable to set new customer mode. At least the CANYON mode can be adapted.

June 30th I wrote this:

It's quite a while I'm asking me what the reason could be for this worsening of SoC calculation.
I'm not a technician / engineer at all and it may be farfetched. However:
I have read several times, that customers would expect a battery upgrade of some sort, since it is some time since the last.
WHAT IF there is such a upgrade under way and Zero tries to adapt the FW in a way it will work for coming batteries and the ones in use at the moment (14.4 kWh)?
Pure speculation ....
