General Discussion / Adaptive Cruise Control and 10" screens
« on: December 13, 2022, 05:55:35 AM »
In a discussion about cruise control buttons, Hans2183 said:

> Sorry I'm not a cruise control user 😂. At least not without radar. And yes I realise BMW has that on the RT and K1600. But those aren't electric.

It seems unfair that some of the fossil motorcycles have 10" screens and adaptive cruise control but not any of our electric ones.

Hey, California boy, you doing the SF-SD ride this Saturday?

> I am taking a workshop on 3D printing and designing in a couple of weeks, and I am hoping to be able to print a NACA teardrop shape that I can bolt onto the side cases and make them more slippery. I’ll be happy if I can consistently get 150 Wh / mi or better and 180 with a headwind. That would give me 40-50 mi between stops and keep my charge rate at or near the full 75A / 22-24 kW, which is important for my sanity on long trips....

Very interested in this project, I'd love to see what you got and maybe do some tests.  I have an EsseEsse9+ in San Francisco.

Energica / Re: Ribelle - Home made Axle and frame sliders. *Sigh*
« on: April 12, 2022, 01:49:49 AM »
I think that I am going to make some custom axle and frame sliders as I can't find a good solution.

The temporary axle slider prototypes are only 40mm and as you can see it is not enough to save the fairings.
So I am thinking to make 60mm. axle sliders which would make a 100 mm. frame slider long enough to protect the fairings.
It has to protect against a drop, but not necessarily against a crash.

Any ideas?

...

Oooh.  My EsseEsse9 tipped over yesterday and I discovered my foot brake lever peg was broken off.  Sometimes I park on a hill and sometimes my motorcycle gets bumped, and I need this.

General Discussion / Re: What does it cost to charge L2 and L3?
« on: April 12, 2022, 01:29:43 AM »
I have a friend that wants to discuss electric cars this weekend (gasoline prices in the SF Bay Area are now at $6 a gallon for 87 octane) and I know he is going to ask about the cost of charging at commercial L2 and L3 stations in the U.S.. Since I have never owned any EV other than a Zero that charges at 120V, I don't know how to answer that question.    :-[

Do you need to subscribe to a commercial RV charging company or can you just go to any charging station and pay with a Visa or MasterCard? Do they charge by the KWh or by the minute? What are typical costs to use the charging facilities? Thanks for any observations that you can provide.

Check plugshare for the areas he's likely to go.  Filter by plug type.  Each location will have network activation and pricing.  Join the networks that work for the stations that work for his likely travel routes.

General Discussion / Re: PG&E power rate increase rant
« on: April 12, 2022, 01:27:19 AM »
Didn"t PG&E go bankrupt primaraly because the government fixed what they could charge but their price to purchace power was market.  I believe California was the only place Exxon actually made any money.  In that general time frame.  Is it some re designed entity from prior?

No, that was the old bankruptcy Grey Davis / Enron era.  Part of why we got the Governator.

Energica / Re: Decent aftermarket windscreen for the 2022 Essesse9+ ?

I believe the Puig Up&Down fits both the Esse and Ribelle. I'm also a fan of bigger windscreens especially for the winter season.
I have been using this on my SS9 and it’s fantastic.

Can we get a picture of it?

You spent $22k on a bike that requires zero maintenance but balk at $320 for an OEM windscreen?  Brother, I will sell you my OEM windscreen for $100 so I can buy a new one that isn’t cracked.

Zero maintenance is not true.  Tires, brakes, chain, lubrication, and coolant.  But much reduced, due to not attempting to produce, contain, and direct explosions of toxic fossil substances

Electric Motorcycle Events / Re: Charging Across America
« on: April 12, 2022, 12:33:10 AM »
The ideal distance is about 80% of your battery capacity.  It's fine to have chargers closer, but since my Energica goes 100 miles at 70 mph and lithium batteries charge fast to about 80 or 85%, what I'm looking for is the first stop at 80 miles and subsequent stops about 70-80 miles apart, 100 if I'm willing to baby it sometimes, 120 if I'm only interested in ideal conditions.

Energica / Re: Windshields for Energica
« on: February 17, 2022, 08:03:34 AM »
Hi guys,

I'm in Kansas City. I need an Energica for a day or two to design brackets to mount a windshield. If you have a bike and are in the area, come see me and get a great deal on a nice windshield.

Very few Energica dealers not on the coasts until recently, but they plan to double this year, hopefully you'll find someone sooner rather than later.

Corbin Saddles has a ride-in program, you make an appointment, ride in, they ask you what you want, rough it up, get feedback, adjust, and you end up with a custom seat the same day.

Looks a lot like this one.  Hard to beat that price.  6A okay to install as direct without an extra relay?

Depends how fast they expand their production line and how soon they get the shipping into the west coast unstuck.  With the shipping situation, maybe they'll be shipping via east coast soon?  Trucking them past the Austin Tesla factory maybe?

Do you know what it is?  Getting a lot of wind to the body is great on a nice day, but on a wet day the wind to the sides of the body is plenty, I would love to have chest and neck in the shadow of a good windscreen.
