Title: Bluetooth pairing issues

I bought an used 2016 Zero FXS the latest firmware is installed. I tried to pair it with my android phone and it dosn't work. The app dosn't find the Zero and when use the System bluetooth menu i find a bluetooth device with the name RN-IAP-XXXX XXXX is a four digit hex number. I've tried about four phones, it dosn't work. Rebooting the phones or killing the App dosn't help. The bluetooth symbol on the zero is blinking and dosn't stop blinking when i use the settings app to pair the phone. Any Ideas?

My dealer is too far away so i can't easily drive there for another firmware update. I could load the zero into my van but i do not want to do that if there is another solution.

Do you set up an FXS to pair like you do an S/SR/DS/DSR? Which is:

Bluetooth® Pairing
The following steps must be taken to properly pair a
Bluetooth®-equipped smartphone with your motorcycle.
1. Ensure that the motorcycle is not Armed. The
motorcycle must be keyed ON, the kickstand must be in
the down position, and the run switch must be in the
Stop position.
2. Press and hold the Mode button on the right handlebar
for a minimum of 5 seconds until the Bluetooth®
symbol on the dash begins to blink, then you may
release the Mode button.
3. Your motorcycle will be discoverable with the
Bluetooth® ID of ZeroMotorcyclesXXXXX (XXXXX
refers to the last 5 digits of the motorcycle’s VIN).
• For iOS devices, go to the Settings application on
your smartphone and locate the Bluetooth® menu
and pair with your motorcycle
• For Android devices, go to the Settings tab in your
Zero Android application and choose the button with
the Bluetooth® symbol
Note: When the Bluetooth® indicator on the dash
display is solid, your motorcycle and smart phone are
paired over Bluetooth®.

Yes, i did follow the steps in the documentation. The LCD shows two error codes: 44 (Kill Switch Disable) and 45 (Kickstand Switch Disable) So i'm sure that both sensors work. The dealer had some Issues after flashing the new firmware, it is possible that more things went wrong with the update. I will call the dealer tomorow. I think that the bluetooth module is not initialized correctly by the firmware.

When I bought my 2018 S, last November, it took my dealer about an hour to pair the bike to my phone.  :o Since that time the app has worked well, although sometimes it takes an additional try, turning the ignition on and off, before it hooks up with the bike.

I also have a 2016 FXS, but I have kept the original Firmware (Firmware rev. 47, Board rev. 3).
I have an Android device.
Once paired, I have a paired device on my phone with ID: ZeroMotorcyclesXXXXX.
The Bluetooth connection is initiated by the Zero Application on the smartphone. I use the version 1.6.50 of the Zero Application, since the newer 1.6.71 was not working fine with my bike.

FWIW, I also had a 2016 FXS that I could never get to pair with my HTC Android phone, but I always attributed that to the age of my phone.  How old are the phones you are trying to pair with?

I got older versions of the APK from apkpure.com will try that later. I did try Phones that are newer and older than the Zero. Newer phones do see the RN-IAP-XXXX device in bluetooth settings, i do not remember seeing it with the older phone. All Phones do have Bluetooth and BLE, not suer if this is relevant.

A little off topic here but since the talk is on bluetooth...

Is there a way to keep the bluetooth connected to the phone/bike while just charging (without the key on)? I'd like to monitor my charge from my desk.

Yes, that is one way that the Zero app works. It will work while the bike is either turned on or is charging.  However, once the charging stops, I believe that the connection is lost.  But I am not sure about that as I never waited around for the charging to stop while I was using the app.

One thing to watch out for is that Zero's Bluetooth link has a short range. You might want to experiment how far you can move from the bike while the app is working.

You aint kidding! checked out the app.. found the page showing the charge etc. and then a few feet away... poof and gone out of range. Not going to work for me since my bike sits at the opposite end of the building.

Yup, for me I'm on the limit of range.
Connect, move from garage to kitchen (7m) and mostly it stays connected.
