Where to buy new brake pads online for DS 2012?
« on: December 20, 2013, 03:44:58 AM »

I don't live anywhere near a Zero dealer.  Is there an online source for brake pads for 2012 DS?

If not, can anyone recommend a dealer I can call to order them from?

I think they are standard pads, sounds odd but try E-Bay?
I've often seen brake pads come up there for Zero bikes while I'm looking for stuff.

Thanks guys.  I mainly need rear pads and they didn't have any I could find on ebay for the 2012 DS.  They did have for X and MX.  Also they had front pads from UK (expensive shipping).

Think I'll contact Hollywood Electrics and see what they have.

I am looking at getting a zero 2013 S 11.4 and was looking for this info myself to see how much parts would run.
I found several resources that might help you find pads. I am coming from a ninja 250 and the community support is really strong for that bike. It is kind of sad not to see a big following and a big wiki already created with this content so I figured I would contribute with what I found.

http://www.ferodoracing.com/pdf/motorcycle.pdf
Search for FA367 (rear) and FA142 (front) and you will find all of their analogs (all listed below).

If you want something that says "this is for a zero" then try the EBC catalog
http://www.ebcbrakes.com/assets/ecatalogues/2013-intl-mc/2013-intl-mc-catalogue.html#p=328
Navigate to page 328 and zoom way in to find their codes (listed below).

Thanks Burton.  That is an impressive list of suitable brake pads.   :)

A bit OT: @Burton: Do you also know the equivalent types for a replacement of the front brake lever?

How many miles on the rears? How many sets of fronts have you used?

A bit OT: @Burton: Do you also know the equivalent types for a replacement of the front brake lever?

Are you looking for the equivalent of a stock lever because the replacement $16 part is too much or are you looking for more options in general?

If the latter there is hope but it will cost slightly more. If it were me I would find out the bar size of the bike then find a bike which has good aftermarket support and the same bar size then buy a used brake reservoir to replace the stock one. That way you can have the options you want. You need to learn to bleed brakes first unless your willing to pay someone to install it.

If the former and you just want color options then buy a stock one and have someone sand blast it then anodize it, assuming it is aluminum if it is steel then powder coating is in order. Minor machining will need to be done on the inside of the brake lever where the fulcrum is.

Or if the former and you just don't want to pay $16 then I can't help you :)

EDIT:
Just had a thought, since i don't own a zero yet, if there is a sensor specific to the zero on the brake reservoir then there is one of two tracts you can take depending on the level of integration if replacing a reservoir

If it is just a different switch swap the default one for the new one on which ever new reservoir you install. If the threads to install it are different then you need to fabricate something or modify the new reservoir. Obviously this would require some skill and testing, lots of testing.

If however zero programmed for a 'stock' switch then your probably fine but something tells me it might be a zero specific switch.
