Title: 2012 controller removal
Post by: SunPropulsion on March 23, 2018, 02:09:01 AM
The controller on my DS has been overheating ever since I had the 2013 hybrid motor swap, It was recommended to check the heat sink grease for deterioration and consider a reapplication. I started to remove the 4 main allen head bolts that hold it in but they are super tight, I'm sure I'm gonna strip the allen, is there any problem with adding heat the the female end which is part of the aluminum frame? I was considering using a small butane fine point torch. And has anyone noticed a problem with heat sink grease deteriorating is this a waste of time ?

Thanks,  Carl

I've heard that welding on the frame is risky because of various grounding dependencies with the bike's systems, but a fine point torch sounds reasonable.

I'm presuming you've already exhausted easier methods like penetrating oils or an impact driver.
