Title: FX Newbie Question
Post by: Jarrett on February 21, 2019, 08:49:54 AM
So I picked up my FX today.  Got home, went for a ride. Came back to the driveway, took off my helmet and noticed a noise from the bike.

I'm not sure if I've been on the bike without a helmet before, so not sure if the noise was always there or not.  But basically, if the bike is on and I roll it forward or backward by pushing it, there is a kind of light grinding noise.  Not sure if grinding is the right term, its just noise like something is engaging.

If I turn the key off and push the bike forward or backward, the noise is not there.  I'm guessing that's the motor making that noise?  Is that normal?

Guess its normal.

It's also happening a bit when I give it really light throttle as well.

The bike is ridiculously fun around the neighborhood by the way.

It was freezing and dark tonight on my way home from a meeting.
I elected to take the scenic route anyway. :)

It's normal, from what I understand its the windings making a high frequency field so it can measure feedback from the magnet rotation and keep track of exactly where the motor is. You and I have the same bikes and mine does the exact same thing.

Yes, lots of fun, I cant wait for it to warm up a bit and a good rain to clear the roads! This has been a long winter in the midwest..

Disadvantage of handsome FX: I got detained explaining the bike to an onlooker on the way into Starbucks this afternoon, then got detained again on the way out. Sigh! (well, this was in Cupertino where 10% of cars are Teslas)
