Energica / Re: If you have Key Less Start Avoid this Firmware
« on: May 26, 2021, 03:03:14 PM »
Hi,

I do have this firmware recently installed and indeed same issue. Which is unfortunate but not big issue so far.

Another question: how do you start the bike with the pincode? I did register the pincode when taking it from the dealer but did not try a startup sequence there. Should I put the key far far way and then just press the button for x seconds?

Thx!

Seb

To reply to above question,

In this particular case I went into Limp mode at 1%. To be noted prior to that I did a Full charge then 300km driving including 2x DC fast charge.

I suspect the start of limp mode will actually depend on battery temp and actual balancing of the cell. The logical think would be that limp mode activate once the lowest voltage cell reach the warning treshold... This is just speculation on my side though.

Cheers,

Seb

Update on my side:

I had a mail discussion with the dealer. I will bring it at some point there to have the firmware update but this is what he said about this behavior:
- Deplete the battery to limp mode and charge to full again => It should ease/improve the balancing process.

So I did. And while I still get sometime the charger to go to 0 amp (even at much lower SoC, I saw it happen at 27%) then comeback to full.
Anyhow indeed the balancing part went faster (I mean, still slow at the end like expected but overall faster). And most importantly I did not get the charge fault error at the 100% mark. This I notice by the fact that the charger was unlocked when I came to the bike in the morning.

Indeed it was a real long time (> 3month?) that I did not bring the battery very low. So maybe this is a sign that 'it is time' to do this full down and up again.

Anyway, I will discuss it with him in more detail when I go there (also the bug about the charge going to 0amp for short periods).

Cheers,

Seb

Update.

Seat switch in proper state and camera set for 3-second time-lapse the following is the last frame prior to charger mode shut-down...

So, three samples taken and two results:
1) Tank LED connected (faulty steady-state display), seat switch closed while charging - undefined fault indicated at shutdown
2) Tank LED disconnected, seat switch closed while charging - undefined fault indicated at shutdown
3) Tank LED disconnected, seat switch open while charging - no fault indication captured

Wondering what ever happened to "Charge Complete" I've only seen this once ever and that was from babysitting first charge when bike was brand new.

Note - for case 1) - the balance phase took ~ 2-1/2hrs at 4A setpoint (alternating from 4A to 0V as previously mentioned) - case 2) and 3) represent short use intervals and the balance phase was correspondingly much shorter.  No 0V (rest) indications prior to charger shutdown for either case 2) or 3) and note capacity is a whopping 81miles, is this estimate based on the prior ride and what good is this info if it represented a test session only...wishing this could be altered to not record for  longer interval consideration...

Also - there's no "Beat Light" just "Charge Light" which toggles the headlights when selected...different model firmware perhaps.

How do you change the seat switch (what means 'open' to you? I may try this just to confirm if this works as well.

Hi,

I realized my Ribelle does exactly same as yours. Was lucky indeed to see once that the dash throw a general fault before shutting down when charging is finished. Because otherwise no way to know. It seems (but cannot fully remember) that it was not doing that at the beginning.

Like you. Afterwards when I turn it up it shows 100% but only for ~ 500m or so.

Also not sure if this is an issue or not. Any feedback from the community most welcome :-)

Cheers,

Seb

No unfortunately. Will let you know if I find a way!

Energica / Re: EVA Ribelle - WattHrs/Mile Display
« on: December 10, 2020, 03:15:56 PM »
WattHrs/Mile factors power dissipation hence efficiency - the lower the indicated value the more efficient the bike is operating.  At stand-still we are dissipating zero power for traction control.   Standby power for lighting and such is not factored.  The displayed value makes no sense except it is unique for stand-still - I can understand the acceptance to this but it doesn't mean it's correct.

Well it is correct from the point of view of the definition. If you are standing still then it will take infinity of power to do 1 mile. And indeed, even if energy draw is small, you still divide by 0

Excellent reference! Thanks Demoni!

I will try to preserve them... Just in case let say.

Hi,

Sorry to bring back an old thread but... I just ordered new turn signal. I guess they will come just with simple wire connector. Can anybody point me to the right connector adaptor for the Energicas?

Thanks!

OK thanks for your reply.

So this seems indicate it is an OK behavior (despite the small sampling set :-) ).

Thanks all!

Energica / SoC behavior after charging
« on: November 20, 2020, 02:23:08 PM »
Hi all,

One question about SoC behavior after charging.
To start off, this is for a Ribelle, and the behavior is seen since start of ownership in June.

Typically I charge to 80% (or 90%, or other level < 100%).
If I take the bike right at the end of charging, typically the SoC reading will be on target (programmed 80/reading 80).
If there is a time before I start off (say 2_3 hours) usually the SoC has gone done a few % (say 76%).
Afterwards SoC remain reliable(it doesn't go further down) and also(let say if I stop later at 65 and run the bike again next day it is still at 65).

So basically the behavior is that usually the bike end up after charging with a SoC that is slightly below the target. Does anybody experience a similar behavior?

I have the impression it may have something to do with cell balancing as usually this effect seems less if I have just balanced the cell.

Aside of that, bike runs great so no complain, but I would just like to make sure it is standard behavior and that there is nothing 'behind the scene' going on with the pack that could harm long term reliability.

Hi,

I just used your nice tutorial to do the 1000km service. Went very smoothly and confirm very handy to have your nice complete write up with some fun interlaced :-)

One question though: do you know how to reset the maintenance km counter once finished? Or only dealers can reset this?

I know it does not physically matter, but just to keep the computer up to date with what is done.

Best regards,

Seb

Energica / Re: Delivery dates on ss9+/ribelle/ego+ ?!
« on: August 18, 2020, 03:57:33 PM »
My SS9+ made it to Virginia last Wednesday. Finally got to ride today. 600lbs was a little intimidating at first, but started to get comfortable fairly quickly. Definitely a step up from the SR/F I had before in terms of ride and handling on rough roads. And Brembo brakes, ahhh!

I think that remains the very thing that is under-realized by most people when comparing the Zeros to the Energicas: Power, weight, range, maitenance etc are one thing, but the fact that Energica is so well equipped and finished means that you can actually dare to use this power. I find myself much more comfortable diving deep in corners, hard braking etc than I ever felt on my Zero...And it is still the early kms...

You will need the gasket to : LINK

Anyone now the inner and outer diameter from the copper crush ring ?

Up! I am also interested in that answer  ;D

Hi,

I just received my Ribelle last week but I got the manual in dutch! - this is the privilege of living in a dual language country :-)

I am myself speaking english or french. Does somebody has an electronic version of the user manual for the Ribelle?  Would be greatly appreciated :-)
