Clean Rider reports that there will be 28 motorcycles racing this year at Pikes Peak, including 5 electric bikes. They include three Zero FXS models, a prototype Victory Empulse RR and a prototype entry from Buckeye.

Scoring Don Canet to ride again is a real bonus for Victory.
-
The Victory Project 156 bike never made it all the way up to the top in the full race; it'll be really interesting to compare section times for the Empulse RR against the Project 156 bike with the same rider.
-
It looks like Hollywood Electrics and the Zero factory will be competing in the race with two bikes and riders. Here is the story: http://blog.motorcycle.com/2016/04/13/motorcycle-category/electric-motorcycle-category/pikes-peak-2/ (http://blog.motorcycle.com/2016/04/13/motorcycle-category/electric-motorcycle-category/pikes-peak-2/)

Why the FXS, not the SR? I know PP is short, so the larger battery of the SR is probably not needed, but what about the power difference? On an all uphill course I'd think the more powerful motor would be needed.

FXS carries about 110 pounds less up the hill.
Several size 6 S bikes have raced before, but I think the FX class bikes hold the production record.
Improved heat tolerance on the IPM motor should be a big win.
I'd like to see a 2016 SR race as well, just to compare. But even then, unless it was the same rider there would be more variables.

I'm wondering since it is a "modified" FXS if it has the SR motor and controler? If anyone could do it it would be Harlan.

This is going to be a fun and interesting race: ;D

Electric motorcycles are looking good so far during trials at Pikes Peak:

Nice video of the victory electric and gas bikes.

Nailed it. Now just make one for the public.

The results of the Pikes Peak Int'l Hill Climb are at:
http://ppihc.livetiming.net/ppihc/ (http://ppihc.livetiming.net/ppihc/)
Looks like:
10:17.813 - Don Canet on the Victory Empulse (Lightning beat Thunder if you are following that. The Victory Project 156 had a time of 10:19.777. Also, Don was 2nd place in motorcycles overall 4.7 seconds behind 1st)
11:10.480 - Yoshihiro Kishimoto on a Kommit EVT Zero (FXS)
11:16.XXX - Robert Barber on the Buckeye Current (transponder didn't work, but this is their unofficial time).
11:20.448 - Mark Miller on a Zero FXS (Hollywood Electrics)
11:31.326 - Marcel Irnie on a Zero FXS (Hollywood Electrics)
Great job everyone! As of now, Don Canet on the Victory Empulse is 15th overall and 2nd in the overall motorcycle class. Also, a great showing by the Hollywood Electrics crew! They improved their race times by 30-50 seconds from last year!

That is insane! Almost parity with Gas motorcycles. History being made.
Electric motorcycles went from 29th overall last year and 17th place in motorcycle class, to 15th overall this year, and 2nd place in motorcycle class.
Last year Electric cars were the top 2 finishers overall, and for the first time, they beat Gas vehicles.
http://www.ppihc.com/wp-content/uploads/2015-Overall-Results.pdf (http://www.ppihc.com/wp-content/uploads/2015-Overall-Results.pdf)
This year, those same 2 cars placed 2nd and 3rd overall, but right on 1st place's ass! 2nd place was less than +6s 3rd was less than +15.
-
If Don hadn't slowed down in the last sector he would have been at least 6 seconds faster.
No idea what happened there.
Sub 10 minutes should be the goal for Victory next year!!
-
Buckeye currents transponder had issues. They finished with a time of 11:16 putting them in 3rd among the electrics and making Rob the second fastest rookie...course was wet and dirty at the top due to melting snow from what I heard. This slowed the first half hour of competitors down

Not so much. Lightning actually won the open division in 2013. Not the fastest electric bike up the hill....the fastest bike.
-
Shit, I forgot about that.
Still insane

Someone once said that gays being allowed to marry isn't the end of the issue. It's when they have the ability to get a nasty divorce and hate each other the rest of their lives....THAT'S equality.
By the same token, an EV winning a race isn't the end of that story. It's when we're surprised by an ICE vehicle winning a race that we will have turned the corner.
