Can't charge after monolith battery replacement
« on: May 05, 2016, 05:37:05 AM »

I got my motorcycle back from the dealership, back from the factory ~2 weeks ago.
Problem #1 they didn't ship the charging cable back.
So I rode it down to ~50% battery, and waited for the cable.

Now that I have it, it doesn't charge.
I've been in contact with zero, but the only thing they can tell me is "bring it back to the dealer".

The only thing they told me to check was the voltage difference between the C+ and C- terminals.
When I checked them to ground it was +69v and -27v.
They directed me to check these against each other.
This caused a spark and pop.

I've seen a few different system warning error codes
First: Contactor Error
Now: Controller Area Network (CAN) Error

Questions:
1) Has anybody experienced similar charging issues (first charge back from the factory)?
2) Does anybody have a wire diagram of anything under the seat?
3) What are the expected values for the voltages of the terminals?
4) Does the spark/pop indicate that something is mis-wired?

We have a thread for the user-maintained wiring diagram: http://electricmotorcycleforum.com/boards/index.php?topic=3603.0

Good luck!

I got my bike yesterday, 5/5, from the monolith program.  Bike runs fine but I went to charge today and I got nothing, sent in my logs and got a service ticket from Zero.  Taking bike back to dealer.  Prior to the replacement I had no problems the bike.

Well crap.  Thanks for the heads up though. I'll check charging before I take it away from the dealer.

Good idea, mine goes in tomorrow, I'll have them check the charger out when it comes back, I've asked others but did they give you any idea if you are able to add the power tank or charge tank

I know of at least 3 bikes (including my own but not yours) that had charging issues after the monolith replacement. I think the swap is more complicated than they let on and they are/were doing something wrong. My issue had to do with the CCU and charge fuse.

I just answered this question on the monolith replacement campaign thread, but in case you don't see it there: the answer is no.

Finally got it back and operational after 3 months of issues.

They needed to upgrade the CCU and fuse harness too.  Poor testing, communication, and planning on zeros part, but hopefully now its all good.

This doesn't bode well for me,ive been told mines done and on its way back to Ontario Canada, I waited three weeks for them to clear up some logistics hurdles, then another three weeks after I dropped it off again and now about three weeks since it left for California,so any more delays and I won't get much riding in,hopefully everything is good when it arrives,im going crazy riding the sv and want to sell it

Was this just an oversight or where these changes not made on any of the bikes? .... Haven't seen too many complaining and this seems like a rather noticeable change in behavior.

Ive been told mine was one of the first ones, so I think it was just an oversight.

If you live far from the dealership, ask them to test the charging capability before you go pick it up.  If its no good, make sure they order the CCU and wire harness at the same time to save all the back and forth (the dealer should be able to do this part).

Please post back with your success stories!

I doubt they replaced the CCU and charge fuse on any of them before May 20-23; based on my interactions I think that's about when they diagnosed the problem. And like I said in my post, I know of at least 3 other monolith replacements that have had the same issue.

Anyone with the new battery tested the bike down to 0% charge? I'm curious if the bikes still cut power below ~10% or if they will go all the way down to 0% like the MY15/MY16 bikes with ZF12.5/ZF13 monolith.

I went for a good ride and spent most of the time at over 100km/hr , end result was 130 km total distance and 8% remaining, no power cuts or problems, I haven't put the windshield on yet so I'm hoping for a bit more range, plus it was ridiculously windy for half the ride
