2017 Zero SR FW update problem
« on: May 02, 2024, 09:41:07 PM »

2017 Zero SR with power tank.

I used the Zero App, it sees the bike fine until I go to FW updates, There, it does NOT read to old FW version and it will not update a new one, the circle thingy just keeps on spinning for an hour as if it were trying to work, but never stops spinning.

So I cannot tell what FW the bike has and if it needs an update or not,

Are others having this problem?

I thought Zero had ended FW updates for their "legacy" models.  ???  When I checked my Zero app last week it wasn't showing any available new FW updates for my 2018S with PT. I guess I will try now and see if anything comes up.  I just spent a couple of minutes watching the Firmware Update yellow spinning checker spin without any results. So I gave up watching it spin and shut down the app. My guess is that Zero has done all of the updates on the 2014-2019 models that they are going to do and have moved on to the latest generation of bikes.

Are you using the Zero Next Gen app? The old Zero Motorcycles app cannot pull the firmware data from their servers. You need to use the Next Gen app.

I recently tried to check my firmware with the old app for my '18 FXS, and it was stuck spinning looking for firmware. Then I installed the new app and it worked. The sad part is my firmware version requires a dealer to install it.

Thanks, I never heard about that. I had my Smatphone and bike on for about an hour and it just kept spinning.  When was the last update? I am wondering if I have it or not, is there a way to tell?  My Smartphone will not even read the old FW. But it does see the rest of the bike just fine.

The bike runs fine, so it's no big deal.  But I did recently notice it will not charge to 100%, mid 90's SOC or so. Regardless of how I try to charge it, so it isn't the OBC causing it. I will later check the battery voltage at the max charge and see if that gives me any hint.

The bike has not been getting a lot of use lately as I have 11 bikes to ride. It says my cell balance is 10 MV. I forgot what a typical normal reading should be.

I am using the old Zero app, too. My bike is running great and still charges to 100% and the app works fine for checking the health of the battery and for setting up the user performance system, so I don't think I will mess with anything.  When my 2014S failed to charge to 100% and kept getting worse as time wore on, the solution to the problem was to replace the OBC. After doing that, everything went back to normal.

Yeah, I know. But I can charge my bike without even using the OBC and have the same issue--unlike before.

I have not yet really looked into it much. But I thought I would start by making sure I had the latest updates, but then . . .

No, but thanks, I didn't even know there was another version. I will soon download it and try again and see what happens.

Thanks, the new version works fine, sees the bike and all, but:

MBB is version 33, latest is 39.

BMS1 is version 40, latest is 46.

BMS2 is Version 40,  latest is 46.

All three updates require the dealer.

Same stuff with my 2017 Zero DS, except it only has one BMS (no pwr tank).

Anybody here know if any of these updates do anything useful?

Useful for the dealer maybe, if it requires you to visit your dealer to have the updates installed. That gives them some action and while your bike is being updated (or you are waiting for that to happen) the dealer gets to put the screws to you to buy a new and even more updated Zero.   ::)

I assume only the first update needs to be done at the dealer and after that they are done OTA.

But yeah, I also think the main purpose of these updates is so the dealer can make a little money on maintenance even on EVs.   But I will probably have them do it when/if it's convenient for me.

I have both 2017 Zeros here in Auburn. The first step will be getting them both back to Reno, since that house is close to the Reno Zero dealer (Eurocycles).
