Tech Help / Zero FX 2016 DCDC/internal charger/batteries
« on: March 09, 2020, 02:11:18 AM »
My 2016 FX seems to have a problem with it's internal charges and DC/DC converter. Unfortunatly due to circumstances i wasn't able to bring the bike into the shop fast enough and now my 2 batteries have 26 volt remaining. Anyone know of an option to slowly bring them to a usable state? Besides having Zero redo them?

Hybrids and EV's have high amp fuses to shorten the time that it can be cause trouble.

Nice. I have noticed myself that using my bike for long rides will improve the expected range. But if you're on the road and "quick" charging it the expected range will deviate more. On my FX atleast.

Took the FX out on a 200km "offroad" ride. Fully organised. Brought one extra charger and spend 2 times 3 hours charging for the full ride. So the total took me 12 hours. But i had some fun. As you can see in the link.

The movie taken of me is here.

Around 14:20 is where i begin my entry into the watery part.

I kinda got stuck for a moment because the dense water/sand mixture on the bottom kinda grabs the wheel. But once i switched to custom from eco it just got out fine. (had to find grip though)

I have the MT21 on my FX, the range difference between the 6,5 and 7,2 would be 10%. But the 7.2 also has more power and can handle higher temperatures for the electric motor.

Which is essential if you're really pushing it. The EM get's hot soon. And then power will be limited.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Re: Crashbars, useful?
« on: January 24, 2018, 07:51:49 PM »
Absolutely,

I've tumbled and crashed my FX multiple times,

Most saving rescue by my crash bar was when my foot was stuck underneath the bike. And the bikes wait was supported by the crash bar and not on me. The only way i could get out on my own was by removing the batteries first.

And last weekend i lost traction on a rocky climb and below it a steep 0.5 meter deep section that i had just crossed. Unfortunatly i wasn't able to regain any grip even after going all over the place with a soft spinning rear wheel. So i tumbled over and wedged myself between the bike and the embankment, the bike rested on the rear wheel, blinker light, and crash bar, as i tried to find a way to regain traction of any sort the bike and me below it slid down the 0.5 meter drop. I was in principle below it and trapped between the bike and the embankment, not being able to escape up because of the handle bar. (it was steep)

Surpricingly. Not at anytime was i crushed/mangled by the bike as it kept space enough for me underneath. And the crash bar held, Even the blinker stood up to the mangled atmosphere.

I'd get one on the next Zero as well.

Enduro | Adventure | Dual Sport / Zero FX lost tail cohesion.

I went a nice day offroading on a closed circuit and found out what the returning rattling noise was in my tail section.

My FX came with the trunk carrier attachement. This is only has a rubber flap between it and the rear mud guard/tail section. And i had nocited that this rattled a lot. So i thought it would be smart to tighten both together. I locked the top plastic part to the lugage carrier. Unfortunatly the bottom plastic part if only connected with a few screws to the top part and that bottom part is the heaviest piece with all the lights being attached to that. So...

When riding offroad the bottom plastic part worked it's way loose and i started to notice the rattling again. I wasn't able to find it because it required a lot of power to move from one another. But sure enough as it became looser and looser i finnally found the cause.

So when you have the lugage carrier option, DO NOT make a solid connection to the plastic tail end.

I think the sound is normal like a trail of tram that uses a lot of power.

I'd prefer a clutch to be honest.

When the backside kicks out it's nice to be able to disengage the spinning mass from the rear wheel. :)
