Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / 2016 DSR 10th Anniversary Edition
« on: September 03, 2017, 10:20:23 PM »
Ok, so Zero made 50 of these last year. I am curious where these 50 ended up? I think (maybe wrong) that I might have the only one in Canada.

If you have one of these, please reply with your approximate location.
Mine is:
Alberta, Canada

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Re: Suggestions for '16 DSR Tires?
« on: September 03, 2017, 10:08:41 PM »
I also have the Pirelli MT60 on my 16DSR with 7200kms. The rear is on the wear bars and the front has lots of tread left. Not sure how others are getting higher mileage? Guess to many full throttle starts ;D. I ride mostly pavement with the odd gravel road exploring. A friend of mine has Heidenau Scout K60s on his Vstrom and loves them. Just ordered a set to see how they perform on the DSR.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Re: Firmware version check
« on: July 01, 2017, 06:05:37 AM »
Is there a list a versions, or better yet a list of versions with what upgrades they inclded so we can decide if we want to upgrade or not? I know Zero recommends we have our dealer upgrade the bike on a regular basis, but I don't trust my dealer and rather not have the hassel. I  can already see my 2016 DSR is behind Tony with version 48 instead of 51.

Tech Help / Re: Won't Charge Past 91%
« on: July 02, 2015, 07:09:14 AM »
That's what I thought. Talked to Zero support today and they told me that I should have my dealer check the version of the firmware and that possibly just flashing the latest version could fix the problem. My dealer still has not gotten back to me  :( but I am going to pay them a visit to ask to check firmware version and reflash per Zero's recommendation.

Wish my dealer was actually good at service, then maybe I could get this fixed. Seems to coincidental that it always stops charging at 91%. Going to try emailing Zero again.

Tech Help / Won't Charge Past 91%
« on: June 30, 2015, 10:20:50 AM »
I have a 2014 DS with Power Tank that I purchased in May 2014. I live in southern Alberta where our riding season ends about early October. Iall was good when I stored the bike in my heated garage with the charger plugged in for the winter.  When I took it out for the start of this season all seemed to be ok too except Forabout the last couple of weeks (approx 8 charge cycles) the batteries will not charge past 91%. Using the app it shows the batteriy capacity to be at 10.608kwh which is lower than the 14ish I remember when it charged to 100%. I also noticed the cell balance to be at about 45mv which is considerably higher than I have seen it before. Anyone seen this before or know if I have a battery issue? I have sent an email to Zero and talked to my dealer but neither has responded with any suggestions.

So where is the OBDII connector on the Zero?

This has also happened to me, only once. I unplugged the charger then cycled the ignition on-off and once the display turned off, plugged the charger back in and all was good again. Thought it must be a firmware bug but glad to hear others have seen this with no real negative effects once cleared.

General Discussion / Re: The downside of riding an electric motorcycle
« on: August 14, 2014, 08:34:15 AM »
I particularly like when another biker (on ICE) points and asks "is that electric" at a stop light. I just nod and leave when the light turns green smooth and quick. I know they wish they could test ride the bike.  ;D

General Discussion / Re: Gotta have this Helmet!
« on: August 14, 2014, 08:28:55 AM »
Come on, are you saying that you "early adoptors" of motorcycle EV technology are not worthy of a little gift to yourself?  ??? I for one think that the leaders in innovative technology (or adaptors of that technology) deserve something as a reward. It may not be this helmet but you believe you are worth something. You have just not decided what it is!

My $0.02 CAD, $0.0197 AUD, $0.0183 USD, 0.011 GBP...

This helmet was just released today as a crowd funded project. A high tech helmet worthy to be paired with me on my Zero  8)

General Discussion / Re: ICE Range & Monthly Fuelling - Hidden threat?
« on: August 09, 2014, 09:50:21 PM »
I want to throw another point in; Geography. In Canada our society is very conditioned to drive everywhere because of our weather (cold winters) and abundance of space for our small population. If I had the option to only fill up my ICE vehicle once per paycheck I would be very happy but this is not the case. I dirve/ride about 3000kms per month. This doesn't include my wife or daughter in collage. Now to be fair we pay less for gasoline or diesel here in NA than Europe (US is less expensive than Canada) which I believe helped us to create this society of taking our ICE vehicles everywhere.

Now as far as EVs go, if you own one in Canada I believe you are an early adopter for these reasons:
1. Almost impossible to find a public charging station east of Vancouver in the prairies. I guess RV campgrounds might be the exception for charging?
2. Range today allows me to commute to work at 62km one way, touring or longer outings have to be by ICE vehicles which is frequent
3. Weather :-\ I shouldn't need to elaborate

IMHO More Adoption of EV technology is key to it progressing. To use the cellular phone analogy (sorry if this isn't 100% correct), I heard that the first cell networks were created in the 70s but the majority didn't get cell phones until the 90s. By comparison where are we with EV technology... late 80s, early 90s?

« on: August 07, 2014, 03:13:22 AM »
Well my dealer said they would cover the leaking seals under warranty  ;D... thought that would be the end of the story. Two plus weeks later I just found out that they only ordered one seal and the other one would take at least another week to get them from Zero  :-\. I sure hope I do not have bigger issues like CliC because four trips to my dealer may mean I am done riding my DS for the season.
I can't believe it will take 1 week to get a seal from Zero!

I have read so many good things about Harlan at Hollywood Electrics; Can we clone him?

« on: August 07, 2014, 02:56:06 AM »
1. I have used Plexus (http://www.plexusplasticcleaner.com/plexus.html), although I am finding it getting very expensive. It works well for wind screens as well.
2. I've only used RainX on glass so couldn't offer an opinion here. There are many plastic cleaning products out there. I have even started to use those "all in one" wax/cleaners that say they are good for plastic. These tend to require one micro fibre cloth to clean and one to polish/buff. Better for removing those bugs   >:(
3. How far do you go on the Zero before the muscle pain? I use to get this a lot on my sport touring bike but only after 400 - 500kms. I found that when I got a larger touring bike, this doesn't happen anymore so I completely think it was the position of my arms and shoulders while riding. Riding position on the DRZ and Zero are similar to me. (I had a KLX400 basically the same bike)
