Can anyone recommend some soft throwover saddlebags for an FXS? Also, how can you safely use them without it hitting the back tire?

I think most soft saddlebags should fit. They usually have straps at the lower front and rear and/or at each end that can attach to the passenger pegs, frame tubes, license plate or turn signal brackets to prevent the bag from falling inward and hitting the rear wheel. While I don't know much about the FXS, attached are a couple of poor quality photos showing how I attached a really cheap ($25!) set of Cycle Case soft saddlebags to my Zero. The tank bag is also from Cycle Case. I have loaded them up with books in the past and had no problems. At their prices, I would be surprised if Cycle Case are still in business, though. ::)

I saw this older topic and although I lack the skills to fabric anything, I could probably find someone to help if meant making the substructure much better.

Ideally it could hold a laptop+accessories on one side (and something to counterweight on the other side) so I could better use the FXS for work. Right now I use a backpack.

Would anyone think these support brackets could help keeping the bags off the tires?

I don't want to buy any saddlebags until I feel there is a solution to make it work 100%. Any other ideas?

I just updated this from another thread:

I don't think the FX/FXS frame has sufficient support for side-bolting saddlebag brackets. You may need to fabricate something yourself (Facebook owners group has some examples that I don't have the attention span to dig up).
