THANK YOU SO MUCH for posting this! I've been very frustrated because I kept trying to mount that anti-rattle clip to the center section instead of the rear-most. Doing it that was caused the clip to rub noisily on the outer edge of the brake rotor and damaged the clip. Fortunately, I bought a spare.

Been a PITA to finally find this info (and it's not easily found in the unofficial manual.) Such a relief to finally find this. THANK YOU!

Thanks fellows. My usual old-time hardware store was closed, but there was an old guy at the Lowe's who knew exactly what it was. Never seen these before and so relieved they are not some proprietary bs.
Thanks and ride safely!

What's the deal with the torx screws on this throttle assembly?  There is a peg in the torx insertion point that prevents use of a standard torx wrench, so it appears you must use a custom, hollowed out shaft torx tool for this.

Has anyone else run into this?

Is this a standard tool I can find at a hardware store, or a proprietary tool that's going to take another 2-3 weeks to arrive at my Zero dealer?

My gf got impatient and flat-track-lowsided my 2018 SR, (happily not hurt), and everything else appears pretty standard, just this

Thank you, Richard and Crissa! I appreciate the guidance and encouraging news.
Looks like I'm going to have to invest in some suspension mods, as this battery & motor may be around a while.
The rear shock is already a little noodly; I'm 190 lbs, and frequently ride with passenger, dog, and Givi top case.
Hopefully Ohlins makes a suitable shock for this bike, and RaceTech has springs & valving for these forks.
Had the SR since Jan '18 and just about 12,000 miles on the clock. It's a neat bike and I'm almost as frustrated at having to learn a new way after spending 20 years learning valve adjustments, carb synchronizing, and other aspects of ICE maintenance, as I am that mankind squandered so much time, focus, and resources perfecting ICE-age technology.
Safe riding!

I've found some scatterings in here on this and gleaned some excellent information, but still have a few questions. If I missed the thread or link, I'd appreciate a hotlink. (Perhaps these threads deserve stickying?)
Please do not respond with "Just ride it, enjoy yourself, and it will last you long enough." I tend to develop emotional attachments to my steeds over time and usually get 100K+ out of them, and do not trade them in every 1.5-2 years. I perform my own oil changes, valve adjustments, replace my own chains, and keep a detailed maintenance log, which only exacerbates this irrational attachment (I prefer to call it Mechanical Empathy.)   To my questions:

~Does the temperature gauge on my '18 Zero SR with EV charge tank show the battery temp or the motor temp?

~To maximize battery life, what's a good ceiling temp?  Sometimes I ride sustained freeway speeds (80+mph here in CA) and the temp gets above 160F. I've seen NewZeroland's footage when he started having trouble when his temp got above 215.

~If the temp is hot from a freeway jaunt, would it be beneficial to let it cool before plugging it in?

~Will torque launches (presumably faster, hotter discharges) shorten useful battery life?

And for those who are searching, like me, I found this thread most illuminating:  Slow charging vs. Fast Charging.  Turns out keeping it charged to 100% and always ready is worse for the battery life than temps.

Many thanks for sharing your knowledge! Safe riding out there.

Hey calamachris I believe you have the new charge tank, how about some pictures of that if you have the tank plastics off

Will try to get that for you this [rainy, argh] weekend when I'm replacing the white plastics with red.

Blimmin heck, I know the Ninjas could be quick, but that one appears to be so quick that its redshifted!

Actually a distracted soccer dad backed his minivan into the bike (when green) and his nice insurance company bought me a spare set of bodywork to atone for his distracted driving.
I really miss that bike lately, because I traded it in on a BMW F800GT for my gf. To change the rear brake pads, you have to first remove the rear wheel; to remove the rear wheel, you have to first remove the muffler...

Forgiff me, my English is inelegant...

Finally mounted the commuter screen on my 2018 SR and the front brake master cylinder reservoir severely limits the positioning of the screen. I had to move it about 2 inches farther forward, so that the screen does not sit neatly atop the headlight to get it to lay down at a steeper angle than a garage door.
We'll see how it works for my dog. I can abide a dorky-looking windshield if it means my dog gets to work safely.

I counsel patience.
If you're still making monthly payments on your Honda, I vote you continue paying it off and setting duckies aside so you'll be in a better position to buy the Zero when the time comes.
Also, Springtime (when the snow finally breaks) is the worst time to buy a bike. The dealership knows they've got you in March--it would be better to save your money, pay off that Honda (and enjoy it! That's an awesome bike!) and walk in there with a fat stack in October or November, when the salesman is lonely and hornier to make a sale.

And stay away from motorcycle magazines. They are designed to make you unhappy with your current bike, and make you pine for the Next Big Thing. I have friends who can't make it two years on the same bike.

Good luck and keep us abreast.

Heh. I just got a 2018 SR and sprung an extra $500 for the red fenders and tank cover. Am wondering which color to paint the original white bodywork.

What kind of LED lights do you have, Doug and where did you get them?

And do you have the part number or a link to a source of the Brembo pads?

12
For them to compete, they had better start with a minimum of 18 kWh battery pack – with at least the same specs as the Zero SR, and with the mass production capability of the larger company – the price should also be less than the Zero bikes.  Otherwise, who would buy one?

You know that Harley has not traditionally catered to the budget-minded motorcycle consumer, right? They are one of the most expensive brands available today, and that's before the dealership price-gouging.

Sorry if I misunderstood. Pixels are a poor conveyor of sarcasm.

Your bicycle has a steering dampener?! I'm interested in knowing more about this...

Not a true steering damper; the spring acts as a damper to stabilize the front end because bike has a porteur rack for carrying my dog.

Just dreaming:

Tesla buys Zero and brings their massive knowledge to bear. Would you buy a Tesla "Model S" motorcycle, that could use their charging network? I would.

Or if you prefer, NOT dreaming:
Harley livewire is coming in 2019 or so with massive resources, a dealer in every town, and too much to lose to release a crap product.

Neither seems very likely. Tesla is already VERY successful selling cars and their mission is to get us on Mars, not on motorcycles.
And Harley been taking a beating lately. Their Livewire has been about as successful as carbonated milk, and they've been saying just 18 more months since 2014. And the only reason they're still around is because they've been milking nostalgia for brazenly ICE-age, obsolete Soviet-tractor technology for the last 20 years.

Zero is currently doing it better than anyone else. Will they cash out? It seems likely, but maybe they'll stick it out and become the next Honda. I've been burnt by Honda and I've known many who were burnt by BMW. Both of these were mature companies who had plenty of time to perfect technology that is over a century old.

It's a 2014 SR. It's been through a lot, and has 39,000 miles on it.

And calamarichris, I didn't want to mention names, but there's only the one dealer in San Diego. They may be "responsive", but they don't know what they're doing with this electric thingie. Of course they won't (and can't) admit that, but it's true.

Nuts, sorry man.  I find myself in SD-Triumph's predicament at work at least once a week:  Sorry, I can't help you because the people at my company with our answer don't care enough to respond to emails or voicemails, but of course this is only my internal monologue because I can't say these words without making my whole company look completely inept.

Is yours a yellow SR or S? If so, I was admiring it while the dealership tech was out test-riding my bike before delivery. (Ahem, I had a good 20 minutes to admire that yellow bike, which is one reason I remember it so well. Can't blame the tech, riding that bike is hella blast.)

I'd be interested in going for a ride with you guys sometime now that the sun is shining and my femur is at last knitting.

I really hope Zero comes through for you.
