Electric Motorcycle News / Re: Susanna Schick has passed away

She loved that I toted my daughters on my 2010 MXURDS(!) up to the corkscrew and back to the pits at an early ReFuel; I think my 2 year old was in a tu-tu; Susanna elicited high fives all around from my girls. She will be remembered as a badass.

$40 later, I have a donor T96 transmission. Old one is out... but, another project beckons.  When I get to the broken bits, I'll be sure to post 'em.

Home Brew / Garden Tractor with an FX powertrain
« on: March 25, 2020, 08:59:22 PM »
Thought I'd share the neatest useful toy this side of childhood: I was in the hunt for a simple small tractor to do some home site grading and general rip-out of incessant blackberry bushes. Found a shoulda-been-running 1946 Gibson Model A garden tractor at a home along the Santa Cruz mountains with a frighteningly steep and narrow barely wide enough for a trailer... driveway. Brought it home, not running, with a spring hook implement.

I gave the gasser one go with a new spark plug, and within about 8 hours decided that's the end of the Wisconsin motors duties and set about removing it and the foot-lever belt-drive clutch mechanism.

Let's say after the Pikes Peak effort, I had an FX powertrain available... bolted it on, added a 530 x-ring chain where a 520 previously hung, mounted a battery with all-thread and the balance of the electronics with some Al angle. Throttle is actuated by a primo hinge pulling a rip-cord to rotate the throttle.

Shifting gears without a clutch is normally done after coming to a stop or rev matching. In over a month of weekend use, I've charged it once.

Let me recommend that everyone endeavor to find a tractor.  I never knew that work around the house could be so much fun.

I don't have many pictures, but i'll attach what I do have.

That's super-neat! if the bodywork incorporated simple storage for gloves and a helmet, and the charge plug was easy to access, I'd seriously consider a simple machine like that. Gives me a target for my Vectrix roller.

Two MY16 monoliths.

The Porsche 912 BBS has my build thread: http://www.912bbs.org/vb/showthread.php?38529-Electric

Ah, I see, if you're not a member of the forum pics are blocked. Here's a few.

Here is a video of the rotating assembly:

Took another long drive into work this morning. I have observed a loss of traction in second with 'only' 20% SOC. Delightful.

They tried... It's better result than an off into the wall at 11.

You can hear them laughing, it's great.

30 seconds faster this year with 4 motors.

Incar from 2016 with one motor and one pack.

No 2017 onboard video, unfortunately.

A car with controllable creep for dropping off kids at elementary school and power for trackday excitement is completely reasonable. And it's Red!  Someday I'll write a thread on it.

Two Porsche 912 motors in parts for sale. PM if interested.

I'll bring my 912 again and camp above turn 5 and 6 near a kids playpark ... it's just the cold winds some might not like. I won't be setting the slowest lap time for conversions this time.

On the other hand, if family comes to watch we may stay in Santa Cruz then drive out early in the morning.

Passengers in cars are allowed! So, bring your helmet, sign the event liability waivers, get a passenger wrist strap, and then ask any nice EV owner lining up if you can go for a ride during their on-track session. It's a fun experience to share.
