Zero's 2018 Models
« on: October 18, 2017, 12:57:55 AM »

I don't know how you're all feeling about the new range, but I think there are three reasons to be cheerful:

1. More energy on-board to enjoy the bikes for longer.

2.  The charge tank is up to a specification that can make the most of the most commonly available A.C. charging posts (in the U.K.). I just hope they'll supply it with a Mennekes socket for Europe.

3.  2017 models are being discounted.

Whilst I'm sure some of you may disappointed that we aren't seeing some of the other sought after improvements, like a fairing, on reflection I think Zero have done well to focus on range and charging.  I don't think we can expect to see more than incremental improvements each year. Now that the new 29Ah cells are in production, we might see a fairing next year as an additional boost to range. Out-of-the-box touring is on the horizon, I feel.

I'm starting to realise that the transition to electric motorcycles is going to take a long time. Development must be very difficult in such a small market. Getting prices down to attract the majority of commuters is perhaps the greatest challenge.  The range is there now to cover a 60 mile commute with plenty to spare in winter conditions.

Your thoughts?

The new 2018 cells are 31Ah and the 2017 cells are 29Ah

Thanks for the correction Doc.

For some reason Tapatalk didn't display the other thread on this topic before I posted.  A second topic on essentially the same subject, an incorrect number, apologies all!
