Buy Sell Trade / 2015 Zero SR. 6700 miles. With delivery options
« on: March 21, 2021, 07:20:57 AM »
Bike was originally red, but that faded so I got it wrapped with 3M vinyl wrap. Now it's matte black. Other mods include a tidy tail and bar end mirrors. Also has the kickstand sensor bypass. I have original parts, so everything is easily reversible. Minor cosmetic imperfections here and there, but nothing major.

Just put in a new OEM charger. Clean IL title in hand.

The bike is currently in LA, but I'll be driving to Minnesota and from there to Miami, FL. So delivery along those routes can be arranged. I need something for longer trips, so going to sell this.

Looking to get 8k/obo. Also open to trades with cash going either way depending on what you have. BMW R Nine T, BMW k1100, Yamaha XSR900 or MT09.

Call or message for more pictures or if you have questions. 630 965 9270

No, the batt's fine. the bike went into a car pushing the front wheel into the plastic shield on the front of the batt. That ribbon cable is right under it, so the plastic rib of the shield just cut the cable.

So charging failed. After some diagnostics I took off the front plastic cover to find the flex cable going from the BMS board to the pack got sliced in half. Looks like its a fairly standard 44 pin flat flex ribbon cable. Zero will only sell the entire board with the cable to a dealer for a ton of money, so next step is to try and fix it or find a 3rd party replacement.

So I bought a crashed SR/F. Looks like it's been sitting for a while and was totally dead. I got the 12V out and charged it. Got it to turn on, but the main pack is also dead. My planned next step is to try and charge it from a level 2 and see if it comes back. Anyone have better ideas? should i maybe try level 1 to start with to bring it back slowly? other suggestions?

Luckily Chicago is flatter than an EV torque curve. Highway on/off ramps are the biggest hills i'll have to occasionally conquer.

Nice, thanks for the input. I have a Tesla, but that has a battery heater. The only difference is energy expenditure goes up, way up. So I was curious about how things go without the heater.

Thanks all! I do have a car and trains apparently exist, so I do have options for when things get bad. Just need to get a beat up enough FX.

Thanks for the ZbZ recommendation. Started reading: exactly what I needed.
Charging at room temp is one of the reasons i want the modular batt. I already have a DeltaQ Qiuq charger since my onboard died on the SR.
I'm not particularly concerned with matters of personal comfort as long as the bike can handle it. If it does get unreasonably cold there's always the car, or train. I just don't want to part with riding for the entire winter.

Hi folks!
Thinking of getting a FX/FXS. I commute about 10 miles within; Chicago I use my SR for that. But with winter coming it won't be long before the SR will go into storage. I have been looking at FXs with the modular pack for occasional trail riding, but maybe it can double as a winter beater? For reference: Chicago does get cold snaps of like-20C, but that's the exception. Winter for purposes of this discussion is usually light snow, some ice, and -5 C.
Anyone ride their Zero's in cold weather (sub-Zero temps if you will)? How does the battery hold up (especially on the smaller modular power packs)? The SR doesn't seem to like temps below 10C especially at lower SOC values: i got limited to 60mph at like 10C and SOC=20%.

I think most fail gradually: they'll charge to 98% then 95% then 80%... then fail completely. I have a 2015 SR that failed suddenly: worked fine and then just did not charge failing the self-diagnostic. There's a fuse in the charger wiring harness that can cause these symptoms, but was not the case in mine. I plan to take the charger off the bike once it goes into winter storage and see what I can dig up. So for me the question is: how did the charger fail and then how that was remedied?

How's the SR/F holding up in the "cold"? My SR topped out at 50mph this morning.

Just had my onboard charger fail. Went with a DeltaQ instead. See how that holds up. Probably end up just getting a used onboard for when i sell it.

yeah it's a bit of pain to get to, but don't think I've ever seen a consulate car in that spot. Usually just ubers.

Yup, left side of Dearborn there is that parking strip between the bike lane and the rest of the road. At the very end of it almost by Washington there is a spot between "No Parking excl Macedonian Consulate" and a "No Parking here to corner" signs. Usually enough for 2 bikes.

I'll check it out. Those two signs aren't on the same pole?

Welcome back to the spot! I got a ticket there a couple of weeks ago though: first one. Obviously contesting it.

Yeah it looks like a fairly easy job. I had the big Anderson connector out when running my own simple diagnostics. Only the socket plug looks like it could be a pain. But I think the DeltaQ would be a better option for me: cheaper, less weight on the bike, and seemingly more durable/reliable.
