Title: Best way to record 0-60, 30-60 times?
Post by: biolife on June 29, 2014, 01:41:18 PM
I remember reading another thread about someone asking whether anyone had tested the 0-60 time on the new Zero bikes.

I have an SR, and bought the 25 tooth sprocket ("high torque gearing option") which I have yet to install. I'm curious to get a bunch of recordings of the performance, with various SOCs, before I swap it out so that I have a benchmark and also some additional information that might be of interest to others considering swapping out the sprocket.

What's the best way to measure these times? I downloaded a couple of apps for my iPhone that supposedly use the accelerometer and GPS sensor to record acceleration, but they don't seem to be very reliable, especially the GPS where there are trees (which is all over Vancouver).

My current thought is just to affix my phone to the handlebars and point it at my dash, then just play back the footage later and count the frames. Has anyone found an app or cheap tool that allows you to accurately track acceleration?

If you attache a stopwatch next to the dash it could be a good feedback.

I use the Android App "Drag Timer" by eGoats for 0-60, it does not have a 30-60.
Inconsistent results sometimes, defaults to mph, but over a few readings and toss out the absurd.
Set it to go, put the phone away, and take off. It detects when in motions and stops the timer for checking at your leisure.

Excellent, thanks for the suggestions guys. If I'm gonna do it I may as well do it right, so attaching a stopwatch is probably the way to go! :) That way I can get 30-60 times as well to get a better sense of the practical value of the 25T sprocket over the 30T sprocket (in the SR).

Time to make a quick run to the hardware store...

The actual 0-100km/h time i recorded with my Zero S 2012.5 is 6.2 sec.  and 16.23 sec 1/4 mile   This was with a simple apps that is using the gps and accelerometer together.

It also give you a graph of the acceleration.

Which app did you use? I'd be very interested to know! I tried to go to the hardware store yesterday after taking a joyride but they were closed :P

A local S ZF8.5 did the quarter mile in 13.12 iirc.
