Loving the country roads in Australia and have ridden gravel and many water crossings with Livewire with no issue. At the end one caught me out as it had to many warning signs. Going to slowly through a slippery water crossing had me just fall over with the bike. Enough the sreiourslu bend the handlebars, make the front brake mushy and scratch some other bits and pieces.
Aside of having the cosmetics addressed, I want to get back riding ASAP. Seems it it is hard to get either original or potentially better after market bars for the LW.
Will enventually source all the other bits but has anyone a generic product number so I can order either HD or after market replacement?

Harley dealer in Sydney not helpful at all.....

Tesla has opened up a number of SCs to non Teslas and they work well with the Livewire. Had a problem with one, but after moving to another stall (another A/B) it worked just fine. In fact charges faster than other DC FCs.
In Australia stat of NSW has opened up some more awesome country side rides.

Harley LiveWire Forum / Can we charge the LW on opened up Tesla SCs?
« on: February 05, 2023, 01:39:28 PM »
Hi all,
as mentioned in my questions abotu better AC charging options we have now a bunch of great Tesla superchargers opened up to non Teslas in Australia. Has this happened anywhere else, and if so, has anyone charged their LW successfully?
Reason I am asking, the opened Tesla SCs are fairly remote for us and if they do not charge the LW, you r fxxxked.
anyone any experience?
I guess the Tesla tech and settings will be pretty much standard around the world. Just not sure if they like us bikers plugging in....

The Setec chargers are $3600.00 here: https://www.evseadapters.com/products/portable-chademo-ccs-combo-dc-quick-charger/

Yes, the cables and how bulky they are is what will make this all hard to strap on a bike. I played with a lot of ideas to put this on a Ribelle and never came up with anything that would be practical.
guess we stick with the bike as is and for now just customise the seat and so on, once warranty is expired still keen to hack it.... In any case, loving the LW and hoping HD continues this.

And as a far easier option, Tesla has started to open up some of their Superchargers in Australia. They are along very scenic country rides. Therefore ideal. Anyone been charging their LW on such supercharges?

Thanks all, solid discussion of options, bummer the LW is rather limited and locked down. We would have to wait until Harley releases some more details or need to brace reverse engineering it, changing HW and getting SW to talk...
I will investigate the Setec unit but will be a beast to carry on the bike. CCS2 plug, cable, Setec unit, AC 3 phase cable and plug... The 10kW Setec unit itself is with 420 x 330 x 161 (assuming to be cm) not to large. The plugs and cables will make it bulky.
Before I ask for a quote on the website, anyone has a rough idea on cost?

Bringing this topic up again in the hope HD reads soem of this and factors it into their product development, or aftermarket "customising" options are emerging.

Loving the country road rides with my LW1, however, road options are limited to CCS2 fast chargers and slow overnight chargers along the way. Looking for options to upgrade the sloowww onboard charger with an adjustable AC charger allowing for slow overnight and ramping up to faster AC charging. At least 3kW but the more the better. Technically replacing the current onboard charger with a similar sized unit, replacing any fuses and some cables or so, might still fit under the tank.

Any thoughts? Anyone working on this or is HD just to hard to "customise"?

....
A "long way up" version would be better than a gas moto - in its narrow lane by a mile. And who can pay this much?
...

It would be awesome to have such a version, keeping the naked look just improving it for road and slight off road touring. Consider removing the gearbox to create space for more batteries. Up the AC charging speed to 15kW/h. Loose as much weight as possible.

Hi all,

now after a great day filming and riding with the largest Zero gathering in Sydney so far my onboard charger seems to have packed in. popping the circuit breaker .... the external deltaQ works fine from the same outlet. not great as I was planning to go touring and "fast" charge with onboard + 2x DQs.... Guess now it is to get the replacement onboard installed ASAP.
what is your experience on Zero providing the replacement charger? how quick can we get it?

As you road trip, taking nice roads, enjoying the ride what do you see a good average distance per day? Say 200m/300km or more?

Love my Zeros. Commuted for 4+ years. A 2010, then 2011, now 2014S. All good and great for a super fun commute. Since 2011/2012 have the Zero become reliable.

Update. Check the route for charging stations. No J1772 or chademo or so at all available. Mostly 240V / 10A or 15A at RV parks.
240/10 should allow ne to run 2 chargers. Based on that have ordered the standard quick charger. Now need to wrk out where to put it.
Options I am considerung:
- Simply on back with luggage
- on top of battery instead of tank bag - will it fit?
- on left hand side of battery - needs quite a bracket and bike is put of balance?

Or any other options?

great feedback. thx. to clarify - I ride back a few days later. so not a hectic round trip. just need to making the one way over two days is my goal. Fast chargers etc. - not existent to my knowledge - this is Australia. Time till trip starts - not long and no time to set up stuff. Trying to get just a second fast charger which installs easily, a windshield and then ride - stay low I guess. stop, charge, eat and sleep - and enjoy.

running 33/35 most of the time as this gives best range. ride is getting a bit rougher.

Hi all

looking at a roadtrip of about 450km each way (about 300miles or so). I can spread over one long day or two days with an overnight stop.
I do not have the additional tank on my standard 2014S 11.4 and am considering to utilise two chargers instead. The most common outlets in Oz are 240V / 10A which should allow me to run onboard plus second charger.

Would consider a more DIY approach to the charger (one..) but tight for time hence going with the standard Zero solution. Trip is April 10! Therefore trying to source charger / Y Connector quickly. Anyone having one for sale? Or any alternative, easy to set up ideas?

cheers
