« on: March 07, 2018, 10:28:08 PM »
I used 2 digiNow superchargers (6.6kW) on my trip from NH to NJ last summer riding a 2016 Zero SR.  Now I have 3 Superchargers and plan to mount them for travel this summer.  You just use a J1772 plug for 2 Superchargers and another J1772 plug for the other Supercharger.  That would give you as much juice as it can take.

Last summer I also used 2 Elcon chargers so my bike could use 2 charging stations at the same time.

Video of using them:

ZEV does not have good customer reviews in a variety of places online and the owner does not have a good history in his other business ventures.
If they work for you, great.

You will need a portable EVSE to charge using the new charge tank when charging at RV parks using a NEMA 14-50 plug.

Either clipper creek or juice box has one that is portable and powerful.

Thanks, I enjoyed your YouTube videos.
How much range (compared with Zero's published estimates) if I ride the Parkway not like a granny but having some fun - not nuts - but not hyper-mileing?

As for the exact moto: Considering getting a 2018 SR with the charge tank (J1772 adapter).

Another question, regarding charging at the campground 50 amp outlets: how much tech is needed? I can carry a charge station like this:
https://store.clippercreek.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=119
Or, is just a cord with a NEMA 14-50 prong at one end and a J1772 at the other OK?
Thanks

A Zero SR 13 will have plenty of battery.

I’m not sure about the onboard Zero Charge Tank, but my digiNow Supercharger v2 and Elcons did not need a portable EVSE to work.  I just had an adapter cord with NEMA 14-50 on one end and a J1772 plug on the other.  The charge tank may need a handshake and therefore a portable EVSE.  Check with Zero, Terry, or Hollywood Electrics.

Hi CalamariChris, welcome!  I've got on a cross country trip on a Zero motorcycle for each of the past 5 years and have now ridden a Zero through all the lower 48 states.  There is much better fast charging equipment (digiNow Supercharger) and more infrastructure than when I first crossed the country in 2013.

Video and written reviews from my 4-Corners trip in 2016 are here:
https://www.benswing.com/2016-road-trip-blog

Video and written reviews from my 3-Country Tour (Mexico, US, Canada) are here:
https://www.benswing.com/2015-mexico-to-canada

The new 18kWh Zero S or SR will carry you about 125 miles riding conservatively on the highway.  If you add fast charging equipment, like the digiNow Supercharger V2, you can take road trips going a few hundred miles per day.

Some more info is on my facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/BenRidesElectric/

Cheers!

Hello, and welcome to our little corner of the interwebs!

Yes, I rode my Zeros on the Blue Ridge Parkway each of the past 5 years.  It's my favorite long road to ride!

You get excellent range on the BRP, especially if you are conscious of it.  Light on the throttle going up, and coast as much as possible going down and you'll have better range than ever before!  I strongly recommend a J1772 plug adapter for fast charging that can plug into NEMA 14-50 at RV Parks.  Also, if you go by Boone, NC I recommend eating at Makoto's (but make sure you're there when they are open).

What battery do you have?  What's your planned route?

All of the following info is for a 2014 Zero SR.

Here is video from 2015 when I went from NJ to Mexico (via the BRP) to Canada:

It really depends on what you are using the bike for.

Around town: onboard is fine.

Road trips: digiNow Supercharger v2 with at least two 3.3kW units.

Their prices are listed on their facebook page and charging rates include using the onboard charger.

4.6kW = $1,600
7.9kW = $2,000

At this point I'm hoping one of the under-battery aluminum mounts becomes available for purchase.  That would be ideal with the weight down low.

Just a queustion about the usage of the Diginow v2's. It's probably mentioned somewehere but I can't find it in the dayly growing bunch of posts  ;D

I was wondering if the Diginow is capable of closing the contactor by itself or does one need to key the bike on and once the charge is engaged the ignition keys can be removed?

The key needs to be on to start the charge unless you are simultaneously using the onboard charger.

What about a battery case that allows you to dump ice into it to cool the battery on hot days?  That’s what I need more!

I got 7,000 miles out of the original Pirelli Diablo II's, both front and rear.  Then I got the IIRC Road Winners.  2,000 miles (mostly eco riding) and the rear is finished, while the front still looks new.  The grip on the IIRC's is good but I am very disappointed with the short lifespan.  I'm considering getting the Angel GT's which only come in 150 size.  I bet it fits just fine.

I was very happy with Angel GT’s (120/150).  I did get a longer DS kickstand for my SR.

Do you ever run into the issue of the business (mostly upscale hotels around here) not allowing you to use their charger unless you're a registered guest?

Most places that have a Tesla charger also have a restaurant when you can spend your money. They are happy to take it.
