They do offer mobile servicing - they will come to you and service your bike.  See their website.  They say, "Regarding costings of our mobile servicing our standard fee is £145 incl VAT (standard workshop based service is £72 incl VAT)".

Thanks for spotting that. It didn't even occur to me that they may offer mobile servicing. Will certainly consider that in future.

I realize it's many times over your requested 10-20 miles but I must recommend Alec at English Electric Motor Co. if you can't find something else that fits your needs.

Yes, I believe Alec at English Electric Motor Co is actually the guy who did the warranty work I needed earlier this year. Would love to use them, but it's around 2 hours and 100 miles from me. Questionable if I'd even get there on a full charge.

Which dealer is that? I got my bike from Daytona, haven't dealt with them since the purchase though so can't really comment on reliability. Your only other options in that range are Firstline Motor Cycles Ltd, Scooterised, Scooter Ltd - Chelsea Group, Spark Moto Ltd, and 21st Moto Limited.

I'm afraid you'll be in the same situation as me then. My current dealer is also Daytona in Ruislip.

Just had my bike serviced by them and was told their partnership with Zero is ending in December. They can still service the bike in future, but wouldn't be able to do warranty work going forwards.

Had my renewal through recently, and very happy with Lexham.

I have 7 years NCD. Adjusted policy to include NCD protection and pillion cover. Also reduced mileage from 8000 to 6000 miles.

Last year was £654. This year £561.

Hello,

I've had news from my dealer that they are ending their partnership with Zero as of December.

Given the huge amount of warranty work I needed on my SR/F earlier this year (more on that here - https://www.electricmotorcycleforum.com/boards/index.php?topic=9801.0). Can anybody recommend a reliable dealer to me, ideally within 10-20 miles of the Greater London area?

thanks!

92 days later, yes "ninty two"! Zero have fixed and returned my bike. What an ordeal!

From what I understand, it was the spider bus, and it took an extremely long time as Zero didn't have the technical capability to repair the bike in the UK. I believe a technical centre has now been setup in the UK to avoid delays like this in future (which I hope to never need again!).

My earlier posts we're a bit rushed. Life is hectic enough without arriving home at 10pm to investigate a dead bike when I have to be up at 6am the following day! Can you tell I'm disappointed with Zero?! ;)

Glad to hear I'm not the only one that's suffered with this!

Zero support replied with:

I looked into the production history of your bike, and it seems to fall in the population of bikes that are at risk of a connectivity issue in the battery management board.
We'll likely be replacing that part under warranty, and diagnose further if needed.

No mention of spider cable/bus, or maybe that is the "bike management board"? In any case, they seem to be aware of this being a problem in their production run.

For now I'm riding about on a petrol loan bike until they fix this. My concern is that Zero have been incredibly slow to do anything in my experience. Getting their representatives to answer any questions is like a lottery. It has been suggested to me that I should simply refuse the bike entirely and demand a refund. I'm not at that point yet, but if they expect me to wait around patiently for months, I will not sit by quietly. The bike is not fit for purpose in my opinion if it can't handle wet weather! London is famed for it's rain!

You are indeed correct, SkyYeti. The errors on the day it died was a fairly wet day. Though it certainly wasn't a storm or unusually heavy downpour. The engine warning light also disappeared by itself the first time (which coincided with a long period of dry weather if I recall).

Update: In the 40 minutes it's taken me to assess, write and upload all of this. I've turned the bike ignition on again. The red battery indicator has gone and I've downloaded the bike and battery logs (attached). Have sent this to Zero and my dealer. I'm taking the bike straight back to the dealer tomorrow (assuming it will run).

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Dead SR/F?
« on: January 28, 2020, 05:45:17 AM »
Hello,

A little under 3 months and 2000 miles on my Zero SR/F. It appears to be dead!

I had brought the bike into the dealer on Thursday 23 January because the amber engine warning light had been on. I collected it on Saturday 25 January and was told that no problem could be found with the bike (engine warning light had disappeared by itself). I was told it could simply be an electrical spike/glitch of some sort.

Over the Saturday and Sunday, I rode approximately 60 miles, no problems, no errors, no warnings (that I noticed at least).

Today, Monday 27 January, I have had dozens of warnings, ending the day with a seemingly dead bike. Scroll down to play the YouTube video and let me know if you can work out what is going on.

Here is a summary of today's events:

Morning Commute:
19 miles, 1 hour, 08:20 - 09:23
I see one "Error 43: Isolation Fault"
At the end of the commute, engine warning light is on and error codes 31,38,43 appear in the log.

See picture:
https://ibb.co/vXv3jXB (27/01/2020 09:23, After 18 miles, 1 hour commute - Errors)

----

Evening Commute:
8 miles, 25 minutes, 17:57 - 18:22
I see at least 3 "Error 31: Battery Module Ineligible"

See pictures:
https://ibb.co/sPfVJvD (27/01/2020 18:25, After 8 miles, 25 minute commute - Errors) - this is identical to earlier
https://ibb.co/8r2MSyy (error 31 detail)
https://ibb.co/477WJvd (error 38 detail)
https://ibb.co/KjXWvMk (error 43 detail)

----

Late Evening Commute:
15 miles, 39 minutes, 21:36 - 22:15
I see at least 6 "Error 43: Isolation Fault"

See picture:
https://ibb.co/m5n0vG8 (27/01/2020 22:17, After 15 miles, 40 minute commute - Errors) - this is identical to earlier

----

After this, I switched off the ignition, parked the bike (garaged). Then I switched on the ignition, the bike dies completely (see video).

See pictures:
https://ibb.co/SJQLn7p (27/01/2020 22:21, sidestand up, bike wont run, battery red indicator)
https://ibb.co/NY62Ykb (27/01/2020 22:22, ignition on, bike dash is dead and unresponsive)

See video:

Video summary:
Switched on ignition
Battery showing red warning indicator
Sit on bike, raise kickstand, bike remains unresponsive, bike drive does not power on (throttle does nothing)
Errors appear:
- Error 28: 12V Low Voltage
- Error 31: Battery Module Ineligible
Lower kickstand, bike switches off entirely (despite ignition remaining on)
Plug in charge cable
Bike powers on again, yet does not show charge status, charge target (70%), or charge delay (1am)
Errors appear:
- Error 28: 12V Low Voltage;
- Error 31: Battery Module Ineligible
After this, the bike switches off entirely, we'll see if it charges (I doubt it).

Thanks for your suggestions and comments!

Would I be correct in thinking that the SR/F uses SAE connectors for the accessory sockets? Would anybody be able to take a close up photo of this? I can’t solder, but may look at fitting an SAE connector to the end of the Garmin wiring. If that makes sense?

11
I'm aware that the SR/F has a couple of 12 volt accessory sockets.

I have an old Garmin mount which would usually be wired up directly to my petrol powered bike battery. One of these mounts, with crimped "o" terminals: https://buy.garmin.com/en-GB/GB/p/pn/010-12110-00#overview

Does anybody know how I'd go about fitting this to the 12 volt sockets Zero suggests I use for powering accessories? Is an adapter needed?

thanks!
Andrew

Even if theft 'is guaranteed' that just means you raise the price based upon incidence.  That's what insurance if for.

If they're not doing that, I don't think they should be allowed to sell insurance.

I think the other issue is that as the SR/F is a new model, there isn't any data for insurers to know how risky it is (i.e. how likely an accident or theft claim will be). So because the value of the bike is high, and they have no claim statistics, they prefer to say no.

Agreed though, what is point of insurance if they won't cover a risk!?

An update...

I'm expecting to take delivery of a shiny new Zero SR/F next week! ;D

I tried another round of insurance quotes recently. Some, but not much improvement:

GoCompare via website (Cheapest 3 options: £805 Lexham, £2761 BikeSure, £2803 MCN)
MoneySupermarket via website (Identical results to GoCompare)
Confused via website (Identical results to GoCompare)
BeMoto via telephone (will not insure any bike this valuable for ANY commuting in London - theft is guaranteed in their eyes)
Lexham via website (£781, fully comp, must use disk lock or chain at all times)

The BeMoto position really annoyed me. In my opinion, electric bikes are perfect for commuting: regular repeated journey lengths; driving through congested cities without adding pollution; low speed stop/start city traffic is more efficient for electric vehicles compared to petrol. None of this matters because of theft risk. Not their fault, but their underwriters are too restrictive.

Then, my Zero dealer (aware of my insurance concerns) made contact with Lexham directly. I've since been in touch with them, and they have kindly gone out of their way to get these insurance prices down. I'm currently quoted £654, and I'm happy to live with this.

So right now, the only reasonable insurance option on the market I have is Lexham. I've been quite impressed with their efforts and have heard from multiple sources that they're very keen to get into the electric motorcycle insurance business. Consider the following history of events, a 45% drop since my initial quote in May:

May 2019 £945 - Initial Lexham quote
Oct 2019 £781 - Second Lexham quote (5 months later)
Oct 2019 £742 - Third Lexham quote via referral from Zero dealer
Oct 2019 £654 - Revised Lexham quote, bearing in mind that I have a history with powerful bikes and a high NCD

So, it's worth pointing out to these insurance agents if you have a long biking history (9 yrs for me), especially if it involves high powered machines (1300cc for me), multiple bike ownership (and therefore multiple sets of NCDs).

I've been quite impressed at the lengths Lexham have gone to in order to get me an insurance quote I can live with! The agent handling the latest set of quotes (I believe Olivia), seemed well aware of biking in general (both petrol and electric), and that was rather refreshing compared to some conversations I've had!

For the SR/F I've tried:

GoCompare via website (no results available)
MoneySupermarket via website (no results available)
Confused via website (no results available)
Devitt via telephone (cannot find the bike)
BeMoto via telephone (too risky to have it parked in London, despite anchor)
BeSure via telephone (no results available)
Carole Nash via telephone (no results available)
Lexham via telephone (£945, fully comp, must use disk lock or chain at all times)
 Wicked Quotes

So who did you end up going with?
Just had a quote from Principle, but they are £100 more expensive than my current 1200cc bike!! WTF

No further news as yet. I'm still waiting for my bike to arrive! I'm on holiday now for a few weeks, but expecting to hear more from my dealer towards the end of September. Frankly, I gave up even attempting to speak directly to Zero. Their customer support is mediocre at best I'd say. I've given my insurance details to Dale at Zero about four times now, with the promise that he'll get back to me with more reasonable insurers.

As much as I loved my test ride of the SR/F, I'm not wedded to it and may reassess my options in late September if I'm not satisfied with the state of things. I haven't bothered to check insurance prices again myself recently, but hoping it has gotten a little better in the past few months.

You've missed "just plug it in to a normal existing socket in your garage". That works fine for me.

True! Although I have heard stories of sockets melting and electrics exploding. The wiring in my home is fairly new, so probably okay.

I don't need fast charging and certainly not willing to pay close to £900 for it.
