Alta Motorcycles / Re: Our Demo MXR has arrived!
« on: May 05, 2018, 11:46:00 PM »
Hey JD,

We have been able to run a few demo days and have a good amount of customer feedback already.

Here is what we are seeing:

- Heat limiting with pro riders on the track (ambient temps in the mid to high 60s) is more or less a thing of the past.
- Map 4 seems to be a little more manageable than the 2017 model
- The suspension is night and day better! the 4cs was not even in the same class as the new AER.
- Run times seem to be pretty much on par with the 2017 (for me 2hr on faster trails is average but faster guys might see a little less)
- The fast charger is great! Tucker Saye was able to race our demo in two pro classes on a fairly fast track and never lined up with less than a full charge.

Truth be told, the bike feels like a more refined 2017 MX

We have some LHRB kits from Alta on order that should be ready to ship ASAP. We also stock the LHRB kit from Rekluse.

I have a supermoto here. I will try a couple of sets and let you know what works best.

« on: April 13, 2018, 01:02:26 AM »
I just wanted to give everyone a heads up that the 2018 Alta Redshift MXR demo has arrived at the shop! If anyone is in or around Colorado (or wants to plan a trip to Colorado) and wants to take a spin on the all new MXR just let me know. We are happy to schedule a private demo (you can bring friends if you like) for you.

System Tech Racing also makes a set that will work for the Alta:

These will work on the SM and the 4CS forks on the 2017 MX and 2018 EX/MX
http://www.systemtechracing.com/product_p/10-22.htm

This set will work on the WP AER forks that come standard on the MXR
http://www.systemtechracing.com/product_p/10-25.htm

The advantage with the STR bleeders is that they have a dual sealing system. The dual seal provides a seal against pressure releasing from the forks as well as pressure being drawn into the forks on extension. A side bonus is that all of John's products are manufactured right here in Colorado :)

John also makes a front disc guard, brake reservoir extension, inline brake cooler, and a few other items that work well on the Alta Redshift models.

Wish there were more Alta dealers as jazzed and motivated as you....  Your input is truly appreciated....

I think most people that know me wish I would be quiet about all this Alta stuff  ;) I honestly haven't ridden the KTM since we picked up Alta!

Alta Motorcycles / Re: ALTA SM-R.... WHEN ?
« on: February 16, 2018, 11:47:21 PM »
I made an inquiry with Alta Motors on Facebook yesterday....  Asked when the SM-R would be available....  Alta advised that nothing is currently planned....

That is the same info that we (dealers) have. The 2018 orders have been placed and the only "R" model available was the MXR. That doesn't mean it won't happen, but I would not expect anything this riding season.

New to the forum and trying to understand the different Alta models.  Question, does the EX come with the "off-board" charger for the $12,995 price or is that an extra?  Also are dealers giving test rides on these models?  My closest dealer would be in Colorado and my daughter lives there.

The EX-comes equipped for an off-board charger. The off-board charger has two benefits over the onboard charger that is equipped with the SM, lighter weight and faster charging. The reason the charger is sold separately is you now have a choice between two chargers. The most notable difference between the chargers (as far as the EX is concerned) is the new charger is IP67 rated, this means it is dust and waterproof. You really can't go wrong either way so the charger could be a way to save a little money. I have heard rumors that the EX could possibly be ordered with an onboard charger, this is not confirmed and could increase wait time as Alta is already at capacity manufacturing the MXR.

We are getting an EX as a demo sometime soon so let me know if you would like to take one for a spin. I have an SM on the floor that you are more than welcome to ride anytime.

Alta Motorcycles / Re: All New Alta Redshift MXR released today!

I’m just waiting for a SM R spec or at least the ability to charge of 240vac for faster charge times. Waiting 6 hrs just is not practical.

Scott, maybe you have some insight on this. On Altas website viewing the SM model, it shows a 6hr charge time at 120vac. If you look down the page at the specs on the battery pack, it shows 240vac (4hrs) listed along with 120vac. I was under the impression that it wasn’t 240vac capable at all?

240 Volt capacity is coming as a software update on the 2018 Alta Redshift SM. I will call my rep today and see if there is any new info regarding the release of this update.

With the sag set to the same spec as the MX, the seat height is a little lower than a KTM or Husqvarna enduro model. I am 5'4" and the Alta EX is actually pretty comfortable in stock trim for me. In my own experience, the Alta makes for a fantastic offroad/woods bike. torque and instant throttle response makes it a very powerful tool for clearing hills, rocks, logs, and other trail obstacles.

I am more interested in a dedicated trail bike that is a dual sport.  They do list a number for range on trail usage, so at least they haven't completely ignored those people.  But it looks focused on track use, that's a bummer.

You should check out the Redshift EX if you haven't already:

https://www.altamotors.co/redshiftex#redshift-ex

This model is exactly what you are looking for:
- dedicated enduro mapping
- Suspension tuned for single track
- Plenty of range for longer trail rides
- Factory 50 state street legal
- light and nimble

Thanks a bunch !!  I've been looking forward to this info ever since I heard about the MX-R, looks like they've really improved it quite a bit.  Now to figure out how to get 240VAC into the garage... :)  I like the new graphics too.

Ray

You can use a plug adaptor to plug the new fast charger into your standard 110v outlet in the garage (won't charge as fast but great for nightly charges). The new charger comes equipped with the 240v twist lock plug used on most generators for fast charging in the field.
