Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2012 and older / Speedo calibration help..
« on: March 10, 2015, 01:28:09 AM »
Heya peeps.. I have a 2011ds with a 61t rear chain and a new 15t front along with the standard wheels (with dirt tires on them). Not exactly sure how the calculation goes for this setup. Anyone enlighten me? :)

I'm close to 150 miles round trip and 2 to 3hrs driving and a ferry ride from my nearest dealer, it's expensive, way out of my way, and if I have to leave the bike, that means a return trip. Plus I don't currently have a truck haha.. They are always pushing it too, and with all the failures on my bike so far, I wouldn't do it again. This will be my last bike until more dealers pop up or Zero relaxes their stand on sending simple parts to the customer to swap out. My 2011 DS turned into a dirtbike is a workhorse with no problems. Run the hell out of it, come home and plug it in. The 2014 FX, wouldn't know, still have not had it in the dirt after a couple of months. So think twice.. I ride to my spots of play whenever I have a sunny day or some time off. I'm not retired and have lots of time. I can go up to 6 weeks of harsh work where I cant ride at all. I need it to be reliable, when the time strikes!

I have the same issues with them. I wish I lived closer to Hollywood Electrics, they seem to be in the know and have direct links to getting the damn problems fixed.

Mine started clicking too.. I'm STILL waiting for the part to arrive. I have had my bike for a couple of months now and have only really had it out one time where it ran correctly. Just sitting in my garage plugged in, I've had one batter and now the charge controller break. Ive had nothing but trouble with my 2014 FX since I've owned it.

ultrarnr, I hope it doesn't come down to returning to a dealer.. Its a 200mile round trip with a ferry ride back and forth.. Ugh.. And I have no truck at the moment haha.. Guess if the either of the new ones fail, I will have no choice but to borrow a truck and drive to a dealer. Wish they would just ship out some instructions and a new board to swap out, that would be soooo much easier. They are so easy to work on..

I have a new 2014 FX, came delivered with one bad battery (contactor error), after a fiasco I finally got a replacement battery. Then while waiting for rain to subside and my work schedule to return to normal, I get the 6000rpm recall. I performed the test on a stand and sent in my bike logs. My bike was gtg.. I still had 2 weeks of 6 day 12hr shifts to work. So get this, I get the bike out to ride and boom, my other, original battery fails with contactor error. So just sitting in the garage plugged in a battery goes belly up. Wtf!!??

I have only ridden my new 2014FX with both batteries and full power once since I owned it. My 2011DS never fails. But this new one has been messed up. I hope they discover the issues quickly, I really only ride in the dirt.

If you only charge at home you can disassemble the 2 Meanwell in the front off the "Tank" it will save ~4kg in the top-front

Meanwell? What are  those? Where are they and what are they for?

Hello! I just opened my crate that contained a new 2014FX 5.7. unfortunately one of the batteries had an issue, so they are going to overnight me one and I'll send the bad one back. But even with the single battery, coming from a 2009x and 2011DS (stripped for dirt), this bike is blow away!
I'll get some real world range just as soon as I get the second battery in. I'm going to strip this bike down and put proper dirt tires on it. Lots of weight to be saved by dumping DS type tires. I'll post a pic when I'm done.

Yeah I called Zero, they wont sell anymore MX bikes.. I begged.. They just steer me to the FX now. Which means I have to jerk off all the lights, charger and such to get the weight down. I suspect it may be lighter than a stock MX in the end though, it has a smaller motor and the MX still has the charger built in somewhere. I'll probably remove it and charge it outside the bike.

Have you ran that FX out to it's full range yet? I wanted an MX but they aren't selling them anymore? They said I have to get an FX now.. Which means I'll have to tear off all the lighting and crap.. I just want a good, powerful and long range dirt bike.

I have an '11 DS all gutted out and slimmed down for the dirt.. Its great but only a solid 30miles range.. I wanted the ZF6 to mod the same way but have 50% more range. Or even a 2013 if it had more improvements.

12
I've just decided no bike for me until I see this "glitch" go away permanently.. I'm not wasting 50$ in ferry money to drag it 2hrs away to a dealer for service each time there is an issue..

13
No worries on the grammar but I definitely got your message! That's just plain bullshit! VERY expensive bikes from a new company and you were back burner'd... I'd be pissed.. I like the idea of an electric bike but I'm not liking this "glitch" thing and not a fan of being forced to dealers who have just jumped on the electric bandwagon and have no clue how to deal with servicing these bikes.

Hi Spires.
Where is that sensor located and any idea what it does? Did the cut outs happen in summer or winter temperatures?
I had cut outs on my 2010 and we tried several fixes to no avail. Noow want to understand in case 2011 has them.

It's a square, blue in color sensor.. I believe it senses current. They told me what it was exactly but I can't remember.. Mine was cutting into the wire that goes from the motor to the controller. It's down at the bottom of the bike between the motor and the controller on the 2011 models. The temp outside or within the bike never had any effect on it. It was either picking up some other field or the layout on that wire is just too flakey.. They sent me a new one in case I needed to swap it out but before I did, I slid it down the cable a ways, wrapped the cut part in electrical tape. Then attached it to part of the plate between the controller and where the charger would sit. It cannot move at all and it completely solved my cutting out. I can torture that bike something fierce in the dirt and no issues at all..

I won't buy a bike until I see the problem traced sown and a solution... Hope they have it fixed in the upcoming models... I had a cutout problem on my 2011 DS.. I found it easily.. It was the blue squarish sensor that wraps one of the leads.. I removed all the trim so I could poke it while riding. Sure enough just touching it messed the bike up so badly that I stopped to deal with it. If it moves around at all it WILL still cause a cuttout.. I finally managed to fix it tight against something, zip tie it securely and now It never cuts out. Maybe they kept this sensor on the 2012 models?
