Title: 2013 S: Watt Hours per mile?

Hi,
My bike is telling me: 146 watt hours per mile. I believe that this number was lower before I installed the windscreen, but I don't recall for sure.

I'm curious to hear what other people are experiencing.

The question is what is watts vs speed equation.  Assuming the 146 Whr reading was made at a constant speed of 60MPH, that works out to 8760 watts to maintain 60MPH.  The power consumption is an exponential function of speed, i.e. assuming your range at 30 MPH is double the range at 60 MPH, the power required to maintain 30MPH would be ~2190 watts.  [if my arithmetic is working;]

On some of my dirt rides where the ave speed is low my 2013 FX gets down around 68 Wh/Mi as I recall.

Speed kills - electrons  ;D

Phone App says average watt hours per mile is 125 over 2900 miles on a 2013 11.4 S.

Paved, fairly flat, 200# rider with a commute that averages 42mph.

My phone app indicates an average of 109 watts/mile for the 1100 miles I have placed on my 2014 DS 14.2 kWH. I have a windscreen and the 25T "torque" gearing and my average speed in the Santa Cruz mountains is around 40 mph, with 10% at 70mph. I always ride in the Sport, or Custom (100% torque, 80 mph max, 67% regen, 100 brake regen) modes and have not exceeded 100 miles on a trip, to date, and usually returning home with more than 20% power remaining.

65-90 WH/mi on 2013 FX riding trails.   100-140 WH/mi riding pavement.  Speed, wind, hills, and rider mass are the big variables in WH/mi.   

Speed is the biggest variable and electric motorcycles are more speed sensitive in terms of efficiency than ICE bikes.   For example, my gas bike gets 80 MPG in around town riding, 75 MPG on the Highway, and 65-70 MPG running hard on the freeway.  In comparison, my FX goes 2X or more farther riding around town as opposed to freeway riding.

105 Wh/mile. I never reset my statistics. My odometer reads 23,000 + miles.

Sometimes I ride very conservatively.

Sometimes I ride at a "normal" pace.

Most of the time I ride like I stole it.

I only weigh 140 lbs so that's probably why my overall Wh/mile is pretty low.

I don't trust the Zero app, however I do keep my eye on the average trip wpm display used on the speedometer at the end of each ride.  Riding normally and sticking to the speed limits, I typically use 85 watts per mile.  While riding on the freeway, I seem to use about 100 wpm.  Steady as she goes makes for a longer trip and less range anxiety.   :)

While not trusting the Zero app as empirical is fine- it still serves comparatively.
 
I also use Noom's Cardio Trainer and occasionally track "driving" as a workout - mostly for the neat charts.

This my ride home...

If I load my bike and compare the actual dc-current into the bike vs the app I can't trust the app too;)

But it is a good tool anyway!
