Accessory circuit?
« on: October 17, 2012, 04:49:10 AM »

anyone tap into the 12V accessory circuit for powering something?  measuring with my dmm, all the other fuses carry 12v across them, but the accessory one reads 0.  do the heated grips install instructions, perhaps, include somehow energizing this circuit?  i guess i can just wire up a relay and fuse for an accessory...

I purchased the 12V adapter from Zero. I didn't like the bracket that mounts the adapter on the right turn signal light.
I mounted it right on the black panel in front of me. I have a 12V adapter from Gerbings so I can plug in my controller
for my electric liner and gloves. The connector is visable from the right side under the false tank. 1st photo shows the connector with the rubber boot. 2nd photo shows the connector. 3rd photo shows where I mounted the adapter.

I assumed that the heated grips were supplied with their own DC-DC converter but i could be wrong.

EDIT:  Just found this on the zero website.  You need the optional 12v kit.  "The grips come with the required wiring harness. Requires the Zero Motorcycles 12 V accessory outlet kit (not included)."

thanks very much for the pics.  it was easy to tap into the accessory circuit.  also nice that there's plenty of room to install switches which are easy to access.

i installed replacement grip heaters (SPI type, about $20).  it's either off or on.  i didn't bother with low/hi, and it doesn't seem necessary for my needs.  i did use heat-resistant tape on the left side to even out the heat between the two sides.

a pic of the switches:
