Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2012 and older / Re: 2010 S motor quit today

thanks for posting this. Once I get my dead battery fixed Murphy's law states I will soon have to replace the motor. 2200km is 1370 miles. Zero Must be laughing all the way to the bank if they expect us to pay $500 every 1370 miles for a new brush holder. I bet I have less than 300 miles on my bike. it was a really bad investment.

this guy has 2018 leaf modules for sale which are 50% higher density

but he will not ship :(

this weblink goes into a little more detail, but it still doesn't seem like a total walk through. And the range is about the same as the orginal. Would be worth it to have an extra 7 Nissan leaf to double the energy for longer rides IMHO.

did you ever get this figured out? I have a dead 2010DS I'd like to get fixed up.

i looked at the auction details today
http://www.pesco.com/servlet/SelectAuction.do?auctionId=9256&path=/servlet/List.do
scooters start at item #1000
lots of vx2 and vx1's
the vx2 is lead acid so I guess that is a slow limited range scooter, can that vx2 be upgraded with lithium ion battery easily?

wow that wikipedia article doesn't inspire much confidence. bidding sight unseen on these bikes that might have battery issues is a big gamble. especially considering that parts will be impossible to get and the battery is 1/3 the cost of a bike.

so the auction company is doing false advertising and is really selling 100 Nihm battery packs?   :'( :'( :'(

"the Vectrix provided Lithium option is rubbish so don't get too exited about that..."

WHY ARE their lithium ion batteries rubbish?

9
i doubt you will get 20 miles out of it
zero specs say
Range
Maximum   30 miles (48 km)
EPA UDDS   25 miles (40 km)

you are likely to get about 15 miles out of it if that if you drive combined city/highway.

the batteries will last a long time, as long as you charge them every day, hundreds of cycles.

There's some photos on page 2 that look like 3 wheelers to me.

yes but those are not the very cool vx3, they are some lame segway type machine, probably has a top speed of 5mph

you might want to ask your friend schultz if 50% is really feasible?
he emailed e and told me that i'd only get 20% more by using a aerotech dustbin fairing.
and his own web site data shows dustbin vs recumbant bike has same effciency

so wouldn't one conclude that the rear would then need to gain another 30% to total 50%?
hard to believe when the front fairing only improves it by 20%.

i found this chinese place on alibaba
now I have to convert mm to inches and see if the a123 batteries are more energy dense then the leaf ones?
nice thing about these packs is that they come with a bms/charger

how much improvement overall do you expect to gain 50%?

I'm surprised no one has made an aerodynamic motor cycle that is STAND UP position that has a windshield which goes over the riders head and forms a roof.

All the designs I have seen have the riders head getting smacked by the wind.

the few that do have complete roofs, are either recumbant or lean forward designs.

15
Kraig emailed me and said about a 20% improvement if I used the dustbin and another 5% if I used a extremely small tail fairing.

This surprised me since the graph shows the dustbin gets the same performance as his recumbant machine pictured below

and if that is the case......it makes me wonder if the vetter fairings really get a 50% improvement. After all they look pretty similar to the kraig schultz designs.

the clamed 50% improvement was what got me interested in this aerodynamic stuff in the first place, now I wonder if that number is just pie in the sky?
