Energica / Getting Energica Parts
« on: May 17, 2024, 11:49:49 PM »
I hear it is almost impossible to get parts from Energica these days. One guy I know has been waiting for more than a year for his Rebelle Fork seals. Still has not heard anything.

And many of us are still waiting for an Experia centerstand since we first got our bikes.

What is the problem with getting Enegica parts these days?

Is it just a USA problem or is it the same in Europe?

Energica / Re: FW version 43
« on: May 17, 2024, 11:34:35 AM »
I rode my 2020 Esse Esse 9-, which is NOT compatible with 43 to the Magic Dock in Placerville today. With version 42, the latest possible FW for it, it charged at a steady 9 KW, even a bit past 80% SOC.

This is one KW better than my Experia did last eyar with version 42.

This is the very first time I put my SS9 on a Magic Dock.

And I have yet to try in on my Exeria which now has the V43.

My SS9 in Placerville today:

I listed bug fixes that I noticed on my experia in the first page of this thread.  I don't get an undefined fault in reverse and went with keye'd vs keyless, so I don't have those 2 bugs.
Yeah, it did make those improvements.

But those fixes are not exactly "bugs".

Now, even my 2020  SS9 shows the version number, updated to 42.

I will go to the Magic Dock and see what happens on that bike, updated to 42.  I never tried the Magic Dock on my SS9.

I will post here the results. I assume since it is not compatible with 43, it will only charge at around 8 KW.

Placerville is not far from here, where they have a Magic Dock. I will have to try it on my Experia later, as I now have it in Reno.

I picked up my Experia yesterday and rode it back to Reno from Auburn, CA the same day.

If version 43 is supposed to fix any of my bugs, it didn't in my Experia.

In the 99-mile ride back, I still experienced several bugs I had in the past.

First bug yesterday with V 43:

I use reverse to get out of my garage. Goes a few feet and then motor dies with the same old "undefined faut-contact service".

2nd Bug:
Then I reboot, start to head to Reno. I get the "FOB out of range" message in less than a half mile.

Again around 20 miles up the freeway.

The I take a break at the Truckee, CA airport as I get a free charge.

I stop the AC charge after I gain 10% SOC (nice long break).

I use reverse again. Same problem "undefined fault". Then need to turn the bike off and on again. Next time reverse okay, no fault.

3rd bug:
Now back on the freeway. About two miles up it, my screen says that "The charging cable may now be removed".

If version 43 is supposed to fix any bugs, it didn't on my Experia.

I have not yet tried a fast charger since v 43, but perhaps that will be the only thing it does better.

But so far, I am disappointed with version 43 as it fixed none of my bugs.

Is V43 only supposed to improve charging? Has no bug fixes?

Don is correct! I am wrong in this case. Firmware v.43 is not applicable to all Energica bikes. I asked around and found out that early VINs do not qualify. Like my bike. Thankfully I have a handy dandy qualification chart:

Quote
VIN numbers: ZNNP – ZNNR – ZNNT – ZNNL – ZNND – ZNNZ - ZNNF
These are the VIN prefix that can receive 043.

So check your bike if you have an older one, like me.
My 2020 Esse Esse 9, must be an early one as I purchased it in Aug of 2019, its VIN prefix is ZNNS.  Looks like perhaps the Energica VIN prefix numbers have no logical order to them by date.

I've owned 5 electric motos including two zeros. I dumped zero about 4 years ago due to J Juan crap brake rotor issues and even more due to their non support for my local dealer (who subsequently dropped zero for similar reasons). I have hoped this was just zero growing pains, and the DSRX is calling me. Burn me once, . . .
IMO, the DSR/x is a great bike.

I need to soon compare it again to my Experia now that I have the FW update on the Experia that should remove the countless bugs my bike had.

But the DSR/X was my favorite bike of my 11 for most of my rides, at least before the Experia FW update. IMO, the Zero DSR/X was the best bike Zero ever made.

Had my Experia updated a couple of months ago, I no longer get the "key not in range" issue and I actually get slightly better range than before the update. It has sorted a few niggles and the system seems a little less "clunky". I've not tried a DC fast charge since the update though.Smithy.
I got the "key not in range" message on my Experia on the ride home from just getting the 43 FW installed. The keyfob was in my right pocket.

Since the time of your post, have you also gotten the message?   I assume so.

v.43 is compatible with all bikes. I don't know why A&S is confused.
Wrong!!!

I took both my bikes in for the FW update. My Experia and my 2020 SS9-

Experia now has the V.43.

Here is what I have in writing from A&S (long story, but they had a cable to do the FW updates after all):

2020 Energica Esse Esse 9- (smaller battery only in year 2020 models):

"Firmware Update V.43:

Description: Customer would like us to attempt to update the firmware to Version 43.

"Resolution: Attempted software update previous SW version was .34, upgrade available was up to .42.

"Performed software update to 42 and checked to see if 43 would become available.  .43 is NOT applicable for this year. Confirmed via searching available technical bulletins linked to Vin." Tech 99 @ A&S @  Roseville, CA

I have no idea what the .42 does that the .34 did not, other than show the version number of "42" in the "About" screen.

I had to rush back to Reno and leave the bike there in Auburn, so I can check it better next time. But that bike did NOT have any bugs, unlike my Experia before the update,

I bought ribelle 2023 with 1700 miles . got 3 cut offs . never charged to 100% . always some funny msgs about key not found and rear brake not released . returned to dealer who gave me 2023 ss9 with 6000 miles . again cut off and msgs about key and balancing issues where it takes forever to balance . also when it reach 40% suddenly drop in power and msg on the screen . you can be riding 70 MPH between trucks and the bike will lose power and go to some UM mode or something like that ! who is the idiot that thought it's a good idea to risk me like that?
in comparison I have the BMW CE 04 . what a pleasure . no balancing - no nothing . just take and ride . reliable . no funny msgs and no cutoffs and no sudden cut in power when reaching 40% . yes when you get to 20% the acceleration is weaker but no sudden drop in power . Energica should buy one BMW and ride it for few weeks and understand how electric motorcycle should be flawless .

the energica reminds my EUC unicycles made in china I used to ride . they try to push the largest battery available without the system around it that support it like good battery management and reliable power lines . and of course cut offs and people falling on their face .

the price of the BMW is half from the energica  - I am not even talking about the TFT screen in the BMW that looks so futuristic  - and you get in the energica a products that doesn't show the stability you expect from a 26,000$ product.
Do you have the version 43 FW in those Energicas? See if you have an "about" listed somewhere with the FW number. If it does NOT show as "43", including if not found anywhere at all, you have the older FW that is full of bugs and especially when charging.

The FW will fix most, if not all of those issues.

Energica / Re: Energica will be Plug & Play at Tesla Superchargers?
« on: May 06, 2024, 10:57:32 AM »
I don't think the vehicle will need an update but I can't confirm.
Fords needed an update. I know that as a fact as many tried to charge on the first couple of days that Tesla said they were open, and they wouldn't charge. Then they discovered the update was needed. I think it was done OTA, but that I am not sure about.

I assume from that, it was the same with Rivian.

Rumor has it Stefano and crew have been seen meeting at top secret R&D charging labs to ensure full compatibility.
Let's hope that is true, but then we will (most likely, IMO) need that FW version 44.

Actually that *does* work. Daren tested it at a SoCal Magic Dock station. Used the A2Z adapter and it worked perfectly.
Interesting. I wonder what the difference is between those V3s and other Tesla V3 superchargers.

Man you *really* just don't want to believe me when I tell you that cannot happen until Tesla opens up their network.
I really don't want to believe anybody about such bad news. But thanks for the bad news anyway, as you were to first to explain to me that it wouldn't work. Notice in the above message I did say "I didn't think it was possible."  Besides, as you know, I already have a couple of Tesla SC to CCS adapters and I tried the Tesla V4 SC in Sparks, NV and it didn't work.

And I hear there are two reasons, Tesla has to has to open theirs up (the V3 & V4 that does NOT have Magic Dock) and the vehicle itself will need an update. Perhaps that will be Energica's V 44, someday.

Magic Dock obviously does it much differently, it's more than just an adapter that fits. Now I have a question for you . . .

If I use a Tesla Supercharger that provides Magic Dock, but I use my own adapter instead, will it work?  I assume NOT, unless there is a way to remove their adapter and use mine. IOW, "charge your non-Tesla" does a lot more than only provide an adapter.

All,

I had a plug and play experience (Update 43 on Experia) at a local Supercharger.  I did have the Tesla ap on my phone, and communication between the phone, charger, and Experia were fine.

Minor glitch afterwards - red warning triangle lit up on dash after starting.  Shut it off and restarted and light went off.  Lit up the next day, but has been off for weeks since.  I think this may have happened because I plugged in before shutting off the ignition.

Get it while you can - with Musk's insanity, you never know.  One good thing about the Tesla diaspora - staff will certainly be able to help other EV companies - ignoring their NDA's!
I opened the photo to larger and I could see the Magic Dock adapter. Is that the Scotts Valley location?

I dropped in on the service center in south san francisc with a box of donuts for my FW43. I had already gotten the 600 mile service at CalMoto a few weeks before. I wanna say it was about an hour.

But I live about 25 miles away, so if they hadnt gotten to it i would only be put out a box of donuts and an hour round trip.

Im sure they are all about Stefano Mesa right now and supporting Tytler's Cycle, but maybe you can get an appointment there?
I already got my update on my Experia to 43. I went back to my Reno house the other day and I had a message on the LL there from A&S that they discovered they had another cable because of another Energica they already had in the shop. They also told me they would only have the cable for a few more days. So I rushed back here to Auburn within a half hour of getting to Reno.   The next day (Friday) I had to get the Experia there and did. Snow was coming to the summit the next day (yesterday). I now have my Experia back here in Auburn with the 43 update. BTW, I still got the "key not in range" message on the way home with the new 43 update with the key fob in my right pocket.  But I now see the heated handgrips on the main menu as well as it saying " FW version 43" in "about". So the update was completed. The update gives no clues on how long it will take, shows no percentages done or anything like that. Took a couple of hours or so, I was able to wait for it.

I now have my 2020 Esse Esse 9 there for the same update. I could not pick it up yesterday in the pouring rain, so I pick it up on Tuesday.

After I get some miles on my Experia and try a fast charger in Yuba City, CA  that did not work at all before the update, I will do a new comparison between my Zero DSR/X and Enegica Experia. Even though it was a little disappointing to see the "FOB  not in range" message just after the update on the way home, I will need to see if all the other countless bugs I had with my Experia are now gone which will take at least a few hundred miles to know for sure.

I don't really care much if it works better with the Magic Docks because there are NONE in the entire state of NV and here in CA they are all in useless locations next to real CCS. But I will try it out in Placerville anyway, as before it would only charge there at around 8 KW.

What Tesla SC  location was that?  Are you using a Magic Dock Supercharger?  Or did you manage to get it to work with a Tesla to CCS adapter (which I don't think is possible with the 43 FW) on a non-Magic Dock?
