Buy Sell Trade / FE 2016 Zero DSR mint, SoCal
« on: December 01, 2021, 10:12:32 PM »
Hi all

Up for sale is my mint condition DSR, black, with 14,500 miles on it. Ive had it serviced at Hollywood Electrics and it currently has two brand new Michelin Battleax tires, brand new brake pads and fluids and brake pads and I had them put a new set of grips on too.The belt is 1500 miles old. The OEM charger was replaced under warranty 8 months ago and it NEEDS NOTHING. Battery still working like new — ask Hollywood Electrics about the bike. It won’t disappoint.

$7300 obo for quick sale by the 8th. Hollywood area, SoCal.

Comes with tail tidy, LED indicators, 12v power outlet, givi top rack and box.

I’m Australian and have been back there for most of the last year but am back in LA now to liquidate. The bike has been kept and occasionally ridden by a friend and I just want it sold quickly.

It isn’t currently registered with the DMV as it was closed during the pandemic while I was here as hence the bargain. Clean title in hand and ready to go.

**text for photos. They seem to be too large to upload.

Cheers
Luke

Parked on a decline and bike tipped over today... minor stuff but the lower left plastics cracked and got rashed up.

If you have any for sale I’m interested! Shipping my wait local LA pickup.

Awesome... thanks for all the info fellas! I’ll take care of that “bearing wire” and then check out the relay that I just bought. Give. The last comment, it might be incorrect, but I bought a 3 pin amazon CF14 relay. I’ll see how it goes!

And the blinkers are cheap amazon things, but they don’t flash all at once, they kind’ve sequentially run from the inner led out to the last one. Not sure if that’s what the chevron bit means.

And again, I’ll have to see if I’ve screwed something deeper up as the rear set we’re working, albeit hyper flashing, but then when they front ones were hooked up none of them worked. But maybe this is the incorrect relay as you’ve all said.

I’m figuring this stuff out as I go, so thanks for your patience!

Thanks for the information! As I’m not very good at electronics, what do you mean “outer pin”? The connectors (red, black, black, grey) were not any pin type...

What would the relay look like? Any tips of where to buy it and what I would look for?

G’day everyone!

I’ve swapped out my indicators on my ‘16 DSR to an LED set, and having no luck getting a response from them... I swapped the back set first and they fired up no problems - although it did seem a little quicker flashing. I think.
Came to the front and took apart the front assembly, had to disconnect a few switches to access the tightly zip tied loom, but swapped them over no worries and now not getting anything when turning them on. Nothing in front or back.

There is a little earth wire which I can’t be sure was connected before I dismantled the front. Should it be screwed into something or do I leave it loose?

Have I blown a fuse? Do LEDs not work? Could I have missed reconnecting something? I’m pretty handy with a wrench, but by no means able to name everything I touch!

Looking for some crowd wisdom for more experienced wrenchers than myself.

Cheers!

Mine died. Two years in. Got an email saying they knew it was a weak point but they weren’t willing to help out/ offer any discount or warranty it. Really stung me and I am not sure I’ll be comfortable with buying another zero because of it...I hope it is rectified, and I’ll do my research, but it left a bitter taste.
love my 2016 DSR, but having to pay $900 (after labor) for a freaking charging system, was not expected from a bike I bought to have “minimal maintainence” and run cheaply. I know we’re still basically beta testers for the market and tech in general, but at such a steep investment cost (relative to other bikes of this class) I for one wasn’t expecting a charger to crap out.

Is the on board stock charger available?

11
So I heard back from Zero... feels like a bit of a blow off. I emailed them back insisting that if it’s a known issue, then is should be recalled... grrrr

Response:
“I’m sorry to hear about your dead charger. Our warranty does cover chargers for 2 years, but yours has unfortunately fallen out of that time frame.

The on-board chargers that come with our older bikes indeed do have a tendency to fail. However, the quality team is constantly looking into ongoing problems and poking our suppliers to update their standards, hopefully cutting down on manufacturing defects.

Fortunately, SR/F utilizes a brand new charger, allegedly with better reliability than older models. We hope that this cuts down on defects and inbound calls; less headache for owners and dealers, less work for the customer service team.

I hope that I’ve resolved some of your conflicts, and continue to be an avid supporter of Zero.”

Very good point Pacificcricket... I took your advice, but noticed I got more and more frustrated when composing my message to them. You’re right - the charger should definitely be covered, especially if it’s a common place issue with the older gen chargers. Hollywood Electrics mentioned it was an issue they see more often with time. Not cool.
I’m such a zealot for these things and have convinced two friends to buy them, and have a pre-order on an SRF. This business makes me feel less conviction on both The aforementioned fronts...

So, fingers crossed I get a good result from them, but not holding my breath. Otherwise, I’m in West Hollywood LA for anyone wanting to offload one!

All the best,
Luke

Buy Sell Trade / WTB - stock zero charger to fit '16 DSR
« on: March 28, 2019, 01:58:22 AM »
Southern California. Looking for a very lightly used charger to fit a 2016 Zero DSR - I believe it's the 1300. If it's off a newer bike, that can work too.

Looking to pay $300...

Cheers,
L

So my faithful 2016 DSR, with only 10k on the clock, has given up the goat and the charger has burned out... Got a quote for $900, and most of that is the $800 part.

Does anyone know if there are aftermarket options, or second-hand options available? If anyone has fitted a Diginow, I may be interested in buying your charger?!

Cheers,
L

Just had my first real issue with my bike tonight. I lent it out for the day, and when it was returned it was on 33%. I took it downstairs and plugged it in. Went upstairs and came back sown 4 hours later and it was only on 43%, plus a weird smell - like electric drill or electric burning. After then pulling the plug and turning the key, the green and red lights started flashing. The bike rode around the garage fine, but I pulled it back in to charge it fully, but it wouldn’t charge at all. Plus those lights flash...

Logic says the charger is gone, but figured I’d put it out here first...

Cheers
