Title: Updated app on Android
Post by: JaimeC on February 06, 2018, 12:15:28 PM
Just got an update to the app on Android. Unfortunately I am 3,000 miles from my Zero so I won't be able to report anything until I'm back home on Sunday.

Was that firmware update notice that I received (and cleared) on my Zero app for the bike's firmware or the app software?  ??? I thought it was for the bike's firmware. These updates really have me confused.  :( Why can't computer programmers just leave their firmware and software alone if they are working properly and not causing problems?  ::)

How can I tell if the app is being updated?  ??? My cell phone used to list updates awaiting approval, but lately it seems like I am no longer getting requests to approve updates, but now it just downloads updates without any warning and I not only have no idea what it is doing, but I seem to have lost control of my phone.   :o

If you have an Android phone, there is a setting in the "Play Store" where you can turn off automatic updates (which is what I do).  It's best to leave this off so you not only KNOW when you're getting an updated app, but you can prevent them from happening if your battery is low and you don't have an external power supply handy.

My iPhone Zero app was updated automatically yesterday.  I'll update the MBB firmware on my next visit to the dealer.  It would be nice to update the firmware from the app!

I have a 2017 Zero DS ZF13.0+PT.

I’d love to tell you how well it works but it currently does not connect, even after 20 tries, us 2013 owners may be going the way of the forgotten, my app hasn’t worked in the last three updates

I have the IPhone app.  The time until charged is Waaaayyyyy off on the app. Bike says 5:56 and app says 14:15. The Trip 1 Performance page doesn't work at all.

I just installed the new app update, will be checking it out today.
As far as time to completion goes, when you ( I ) first plug it in
it reads way off. as it settles in, it seems to fall more in line with
the dash. Will see if there is any difference with the new version.

Took the SR all over town today. Checked the updated app against the dash for time to full.
When I first started, the bike and the app were about an hour different. The longer I kept
the app updating, the closer the times got. One possible cause for the difference could be
the Bluetooth delay. If you  ( I ) watch the app, the power goes in steps from as low as 6 amps
to around 12~13 amps. If the dash doesn't update as often as the app, it will have a more
consistent reading. If the app refreshes at 6 amps, it will show a much longer time to full
than if it refreshes at 12 amps.
Just a thought

Okay, this is getting ridiculous. At this point in time I strongly feel whoever is in charge of Software QA at Zero needs to be dragged out into the parking lot and beaten with rubber hoses. I finally had a chance to try the new app that was downloaded and installed while I was away on vacation in Las Vegas. The "Range to Empty" now displays "0" and NEVER updates. WTF, Zero?? Does ANYONE check your code before it is released to the public?? First we had the firmware update on the bikes that screws with the battery range and charge level and now THIS??? GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER, I'm starting to lose faith in you now.

Like I keep saying.  If whatever you own is working well enough for you, don't install any software updates or revisions. My cell phone app still functions just fine on both my previous 2014 S (which my daughter is riding) as well as my 2018 S.  My recollection is that that app version was last updated in July 2017.  Now whenever I get a notice that a new update is available for any of the very few apps that I use, I just decline the update privilege and tell it to go away.   ::)

The updated app no longer displays battery capacity. :)

Well that sucks and I don't see that as an improvement over the previous version of the app.  :(  Why would they do that?   ???

Can't take any crap about how poorly it performs that way, at least.

I just tried my Zero Android app and it works just a well as it ever did.  I don't see any changes, but then I don't know for sure if it received some sort of automatic update since last July.  I might add that I don't visit the Google Play Store.  Is that where updates come from?

Does anyone have older version apk?
Current is v1.6.71, but I don't know what version number is for the previous one.

I think I've read you giving that advice at least a dozen times Richard. Thankfully, I listened! [emoji1]

Thank you. They have proven to be wise words indeed. [emoji106]

Thank you.  Side-loaded and working properly.  Gotta remember to NOT allow this thing to update!!  Wish it was as easy to do the same with the last firmware update to the bike itself.

Oh, that's scary.  I hate getting apk files from a site.

Hello, I have reverted back today to Zero App version 1.6.50
At this occasion, I have collected screen copies of the last three Zero App versions (Android).

My phone has made an automatic update on Feb 7th and changed from v1.6.50 to 1.6.71. Here is the changelog that I get on my phone (using the Changelog Droid App):
https://photos.app.goo.gl/MM5IjNeziIvB3H0s2
Oddly, Changelog Droid omitted to save any record about version 1.5.7, despite it was on my phone for some time...

Screen copies of Zero App v1.5.7 (20), that was on my phone the 29/05/2017:
https://photos.app.goo.gl/6HY685RyRA9HPi3E3

Screen copies of Zero App v1.6.50 (21), that I have reinstalled today (17/03/2018):
https://photos.app.goo.gl/jwZ5WGJFxZVzfK9i2

Screen copies of Zero App v1.6.71 (22), that was on my bike yesterday (16/03/2018) :
https://photos.app.goo.gl/w25bLmWGHbgeipu32

In the first two versions, there was a cell balance expressed in mV, but it has disappeared in the present version.

One day later, the automatic update on my Android phone has put back the 1.6.71 version. Grrrr. I have to disable the automatic update.

By the way, today I am again on the 1.6.71 version of the Zero App, and I find that I am unable to connect my Android phone and my 2016 FXS by Bluetooth as long as the bike is charging ! If I stop charging, I can connect.
With the previous version, I was able to connect while charging.

In short:
Bike           App version    System     Bluetooth connection while charging
FXS 2016       1.6.71         Android    Fail

Are you able to connect by Bluetooth when the bike is charging with the 1.6.71 App?

UPDATE: 15 minutes later, I have been able to connect. I do not understand what happens and why sometimes it works, sometimes not... Bluetooth mysteries...

Lately my Bluetooth has been slow to connect to my Zero. But what helps is to turn on the Zero app then turn on the bike's ignition switch. Sometimes you have to go through this process twice to get it to hook up.  ???

Sometimes I have to power off my phone, power off my earbud, power on the phone, and turn off the wifi before it will connect.

My 2018 S acts exactly the same way when trying to connect to the Zero app. It wasn't always like that.  ???

I have compared the data shown by versions 1.5.7, 1.6.50, 1.6.71 of the zero App (Android version).
I attach the result.

Note that I have translated most of the labels from French, since my App displays in French, and since apparently it is not possible to make it display in English. So perhaps it is not exactly the right translation...
