Considering a 2019 fxs...

My riding experience is limited to a Honda cbr 250 (approx 5 k miles) and a gixxer 750 (approx 11 k miles)

I (briefly) test rode a 2018 S

Compared to my gixxer, it was light, comfortable and the torque was great.

I use my bike to commute 7 months out of the year

I can’t decide if I should sell my gixxer (which is paid off) and get the 2019 fxs

I’m hoping you guys can share whether you had regrets making the switch from old-school to electric?

I suspect I might just be looking for justifications for the upgrade

I've been on a 2017 FXS for about 18 months. Previous bikes were Aprilia Dorsoduro 750, Ducati Monster S4, Ducati 748, YZF750, plus loads of others. No regrets for me. The only thing I'd say is that if you do lots of motorway miles or touring the electric isn't ideal.

I can only afford the fxs if I sell my gixxer

It’s a big move financially, so I suppose it’s fear that’s holding me back

I was about to say, unless you are strapped for space and/or money, keep the gixxer and have both. I have had my Brammo Empulse over 4 years now but just recently bought a Triumph Street Cup because I missed going on longer rides in a group. The Empulse is still my daily ride, the Cup goes out maybe once a month.

What I am trying to say is, if you rarely/never go on long distance rides in a group, you will most likely not regret the decision to go with the FXS.

I ride exclusively in the city (las Vegas)

There is one dealership in town

They said the out-of-the-door price on the 2019 fxs is $12,150

There's a little room for negotiation, but not much. If you're not in a hurry to buy I would wait until the end of the year to see if Zero runs any special deals like they did with their left over DSR's last year. This was a great deal. Glad I was able to snag one.

Maybe it was even late august when the price drop was announced.
As for negotiating, it's free to say what you will pay and see what happens. End of the month is a good time for cars, don't know if that applies to motos.

I would love to take my FX to explore Vegas and other cities. I was in Madrid on an F750GS wishing I could be on my FX. That would be AMAZING. Motorcycles can go virtually anywhere in Spain.

You can zip around and park anywhere. No waiting for warm-up, no noise, no gas stations, almost no maintenance. You can get away with things because nobody is bothered. You can have a top case and hand guards and heated grips and ride all year round, very utilitarian. I've been enjoying all this trouble-free for 2 years now.

I would 1000% have an FX/FXS ZF7.2 in Vegas provided:
- my commute was under 20 miles and primarily on surface streets
- I could plug in at home
- I had safe parking on each end (and/or comprehensive coverage)

I’m stopping myself from going to the dealership to test ride the 2019 fxs because I’m worried I won’t be able to stop myself from buying it.

The 2018 S I rode was awesome and I suspect the fxs will be even better.

I want to make a calm and rational decision and negotiate a good price but the dealership crew will probably figure out quickly that I want the bike badly.

How far is your commute? You could go for a 2016-17 model and save a chunk of money.

I agree with Erasmo 100%.  A 17 or 18 will still have some warranty left.  Only the 18 will have the same battery size though (make sure it's a 7.2 not a super cheap 3.6) I just had my DSR shipped over 1000 miles for about $350 on U Ship.  They are on Cycle Trader for around 8 or 9 on the west coast.
Zero says a new bike will take 5 years of use to make it cheaper than an ICE bike.  If you save 3 or 4 grand right off the top it's much quicker.
The FX always appealed a bit more to me and if you like wheelies it pops them up real easy, not so much on the FXS, and the only real difference is longer fork travel spoke wheels (inner tubes required) and more off road tires.

New2elec:  There is a 2016 DSR for sale near me for 9.900
But with 14.000 miles on it. How much does yours have (considering they sell for 8 or 9k as you mentioned) Also considering an almost new fxs 2018 for 10.450.
Fxs range is sufficient for me... Is 14.000 miles high mileage? I don't know the charging history of the dsr. It does not have a chargetank..

I wasn't clear on my post.
The 8-9k price was for FX/S bikes.
I was just using my bike's shipping cost to encourage others to look further away when it's a good deal.
I've never rode a FX but review videos talk about how much fun they are to ride.  If longer range is more important to you than wheelie fun riding then get a S or DS style bike.
At this point all 16 bikes will be out of the two year full warranty so there is a little more buyer risk involved.

My 13 DS has over 27k miles and runs like the day I got it.  It's had a few fixes but in my opinion miles really barely matter on these bikes.
I would be more careful of an older bike with very low miles as the battery was maybe neglected.
