Well, the actual tax form uses the "in service date" instead of the date of purchase
Well that means I got extremely lucky, as my SR arrived on 01/01/2015... that's right, the dealer actually opened on New Year's day just so I could get my bike. The salesman and one of the techs helped me set it up and ride it into the pouring rain.

I'm not sure I understand. You are claiming it on your 2015 taxes, I assume so why did they open on 1/1/15? Or do you mean that if it were a day earlier you wouldn't be able to claim it?

Yes. I was thinking I wasn't eligible since I thought it was by purchase date, but if it's by service date, then I just happen to slip by.

I don't know why they opened for me, I didn't bug them about "is it there yet?" or anything and I sure wasn't expecting a call from the dealership on New Year's Day.

"Yes. I was thinking I wasn't eligible since I thought it was by purchase date, but if it's by service date, then I just happen to slip by."

I read in many places that it was the purchase date, but the actual form reads "In Service date" and elsewhere on the net that is explained as "date of delivery." So you just barely get the refund this year, and I have to wait for next year...

After 2 months of not getting a response, I wrote another message to my representative. Got a response this time, and it's what I call a "fck off" response.

Quote
Dear Mr. pacificcricket,

Thank you for contacting me about the tax credit for plug-in electric drive motor vehicles. I appreciate hearing from you.

Internal Revenue Code Section 30D provides a tax credit for qualified plug-in electric drive motor vehicles, including passenger vehicles and light trucks. The credit was enacted in the Energy Improvement and Extension Act of 2008 and later amended through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 to include vehicles acquired after December 31, 2009. After at least 200,000 qualifying manufacturer’s vehicles have been sold in the United States, the credit begins to phase out. I will follow the progress of this issue closely and keep your views in mind should it be considered by the House of Representatives.

Thank you again for writing me. If you would like to know more about my work in Congress, please sign up for my newsletter at http://bonamici.house.gov or visit my Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/congresswomanbonamici.

Sincerely,

Unfortunately (or fortunately) I am not active on social networks. I don't have a twitter account. I am going to try with another message to her office via Congress' website, and then call them if necessary. Not going to drop this.

You are dealing with some aide who has been told to respond politely and not promise anything. I wouldn't bother further with her.

the 2015 version of the form

https://www.irs.gov/instructions/i8936/

a lot of links point to the old version, which says it expired.

Who should I bother with then ? It's not like I can reach out to another Rep and find out the answer. I'd rather reach out to the author of the bill of course.

P.S. wrote the third time to them. If still nothing, I will start sending paper mail (registered).

Maybe a letter to the editor, other *public* stuff?

Politicians respond to publicity more than to direct contact (unless you're a donor, I imagine)

Yeah, I thought of that. Worth a try.

Or maybe there's a local green group that has influence.  EV owners association, solar installers group, etc.

What really would be helpful, is 2014 buyers on this board sending similar requests to their reps. Rattle up the House of Representatives.
And for even more bonus points, if Zero could contact 2014 owners suggesting that same action.

Does a demo bike qualify as a new bike? Has anyone with a demo bike gotten the rebate?

The $900 California rebate fell through for me because the dealer did not respond to the email I sent them to verify the bike as eligible--it seems they could have simply replied to the agency but apparently they ignored my email... which leads to question #1--is my demo bike eligible for these rebates?
