Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / SCv2 Passenger seat mounting
« on: September 23, 2017, 04:02:29 AM »
I'm interested in seeing how others have mounted their Supercharger v2 outside of the tank area.  If you have mounted it somewhere else, like near the passenger seat, please share photos.  Cheers!

Cheers!

Electric Motorcycle Events / 2017 East Coast Road Trip!
« on: August 13, 2017, 11:59:10 PM »
It's summertime which means I am on the road riding my 2016 Zero SR all over the place.  After completing riding through the lower 48 I am taking a nice short ride from Maine to Florida this year.  I'm currently on the Blue Ridge Parkway heading to Blacksburg VA for the night before continuing down to Asheville.

Follow my adventures on Facebook by searching for Ben Rich - Electric Biker or wait for the videos to come out on YouTube under my username benswing.  (FYI, I also teach and perform swing dancing.)

Cheers!

Buy Sell Trade / [SOLD] 2014 Zero SR w/ Power Tank under $9k
« on: June 27, 2017, 09:03:59 AM »
Selling my trusty 2014 Zero SR w/ Power Tank for $8,995!  Contact Rockwell Cycles for a test ride at (845) 446-3834.  Everything works great, I just got a new bike.  This is the bike I rode across the country last summer, and from Mexico to Canada the summer before.  So many fond memories!

(FYI, it does have a power tank, not sure why they only listed it as 11.4kWh, it is actually 14.2kWh.)

Energica / Eva test ride & review w/ video
« on: February 02, 2017, 10:37:13 PM »
Here is my latest review of the Energica Eva on GreenCarReports.com.  I was impressed with how comfortable a seating position it had, but was blown away by DC fast charging capability built in!

Energica / Energica Eva test ride (July 2016)
« on: August 24, 2016, 08:22:45 PM »
Here is video of my test ride on the Energica Eva on July 14, 2016.  Davide took me on a tour slicing through traffic all the way down to Alice's Restaurant.  He definitely did not abide by the guidelines of lane splitting that I am familiar with (below 50mph and within 15mph of surrounding traffic), but I got the bike up to 115mph and got a good feel for it in the canyons near Alice's.

For a few more details of this epic 6-hour test ride (and the full story that people on this forum will be interested in) check out this video at the 9:45 mark.

Alta Motorcycles / Alta Redshift SM test ride (July 2016)
« on: August 24, 2016, 08:16:57 PM »
Here is my test ride on the Alta Redshift SM from July 14th, 2016.  Looks like a good group of people at Alta and their assembly line is set up with some bikes on it (when I was there).  My guide was Jon Bekefy and he does most of the explaining about the details of the bike while I provide my impressions of it's characteristics.

My question is: In the video Alta claims they have 80% higher battery density than "Any other battery in the motorcycle space."

The Alta Motors battery has a density of 193Wh/kg (5800Wh/30kg)
The Zero FX has a battery density of 174Wh/kg (3300/19kg)

This is an 11% improvement.  Am I missing something or is this an inaccurate stat?
But the Zero FX has a battery density of

Alta Motorcycles / Please change to Alta Motors
« on: August 17, 2016, 06:44:17 PM »
Hey Admin!  Please change the title of this subforum to Alta Motors.  They changed their name in 2014 and fewer people recognize this brand name.

Cheers!

General Discussion / Lithium Butt Challenge!
« on: August 12, 2016, 09:03:21 PM »
Thanks to a reader comment on Zero's Facebook page I would like to introduce an informal challenge for electric bikers.  Now that more people are getting fast charging systems (digiNow and dual Elcons), there will be more people who can accomplish this feat.

The Lithium Butt Challenge is to ride 500 miles in 24 hours on an electric motorcycle.

So far Terry Hershner has done it, I have done it, and possibly Brandon Nozaki-Miller did it during his 1,000 mile weekend (but that may have been 3 days).

Please list the date on which you completed the challenge.

WARNING: This is a difficult challenge both physically and mentally.  Always ride under safe conditions and do not put yourself in danger.  Even with the fastest charging equipment, this ride will take approximately 18 hours under ideal conditions.  That is a long day and fatigue can seriously affect your riding abilities.
