Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Re: Buying a demo bike. Advice?
« on: June 10, 2020, 08:05:12 PM »
Regarding the tax credit for new vehicles, I was concerned that my demo might not qualify as it's not technically "new." However, going over my paperwork, the dealer had written "new" on all purchase documents so I should be all set.
I'm not sure if noting it as "new" is standard procedure for demos or not, but might be something to look out for.

FYI, my email says "...starting at $120."
I do have an FXS, so maybe that's the difference.

Also, look at used parts on AF1... might get lucky. I got a used set for less than $50... faded but ideal for a respray.

Can anyone identify the windscreen featured on the police spec FX.

Looks like it could be the Zero commuter screen but thought that wasn't a fit for FX.
Thoughts?

Yes, it is a town levied tax (the state of CT is an easy target when it comes to tax criticism, though :)
The assessor used NADA and corrected the model to FXS to come up with the corrected figure.

Another funny consequence of officials knowing what the heck a Zero is... just got my CT motor vehicle tax bill, valuing my 17 FXS at $20,880.
First I thought it was just another new CT tax (supermoto tax?) they must have passed while I was sleeping.
Assessor didn't know where that number came from but mercifully lowered it back down to reality.

thanks guys.  Never needed a lift with previous bikes.  Good excuse to get a new tool!

Was about to adjust my belt tension and thought I'd ask just to make sure since it's my first time. Is there any reason I shouldn't adjust belt tension with the rear wheel on the ground, bike on sidestand)?
Thanks!

I recently had the belt replaced on my 2017 FXS and now have a louder and deeper than normal whine, most noticeable at low rpms, when "taking off."
Is this also typically symptomatic of a belt tension issue as well?  Thoughts appreciated.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Where's the official Zero schwag??
« on: March 20, 2019, 10:15:45 PM »
Was just wondering why Zero doesn't sell any official t-shirts, jackets, stickers, hats, keychains, etc.  I've seen some on their non-US sites, but nothing here (unless I'm missing something). Yes it's not a huge market or income source, but just seems like a missed opportunity to create more visible brand ambassadors amongst some pretty passionate owners and would-be owners - and especially considering how easy it is to set up a shop. Heck, I can buy an official Lightning ladies pique cotton polo with a click, but not a simple Zero logo-ed t-shirt! What do you think's the barrier?

This bag mounts nicely to the rear fender of my FXS with a simple extension to the straps. Not the greatest quality (and not waterproof!!!) but a cheap solution that fits my needs and doesn't seem like it wants to fly off.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / New Motorcycle Bills in CT
« on: January 27, 2019, 10:14:52 AM »
FYI, some new motorcycle legislation being proposed in Connecticut.
1) bill to make lane splitting legal.
2) bill to make helmets mandatory for riders under 21 (currently no helmet law in CT)

Lane splitting in CT is kind of a humorous proposition. Not a lot of commuters on two wheels here, at least compared to CA.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Re: Dwindling Dealers?
« on: March 30, 2018, 08:22:20 PM »
I'm referencing a dealer in Stamford, CT. They didn't close shop, just dropped the Zero line. They said it was a combination of lack of interest and poor dealer support from the
manufacturer. "They are not very structured like the Japanese OEM's"

« on: March 30, 2018, 06:42:34 PM »
As a prospective buyer, dealer support and accessibility is a big concern. I've noticed that a few dealers in the Northeast US have stopped carrying Zero already. And the dealer closest to me has what seems like low sales volume. Has anyone else noticed a trend in dealers "pulling out" of Zero in other parts of the country. Or is the dealer network still growing? I'm concerned about losing more dealers within a reasonable distance but also wondering about the health of the dealer network overall. Thanks for any insights and for the great conversations on this board.
