Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / How old is your zero?
« on: May 26, 2024, 06:31:45 PM »
Also because I am wondering how reliable a Zero is. But also because forums usually discuss problems. I thought this could add a positive note.

So the question. How long have you used your bike?

Bonus.
  • version:
  • bike production year:
  • years you have used it:
  • km you have put on it?

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Zero S 2019 - Sevcon CAN Link Down
« on: May 16, 2024, 09:13:05 PM »
Any one encounterd Sevcon CAN Link Down before?

The first time it happend; the bike was charging overnight; So i did not notice it.
Than it happend when I was driving. I suddenly lost power.

Because the Logs showed the SEVCON CAN link was lost; my first tought was that it could be a broken wire.
I checked the wiring; and I could not find any damage. I also tried to see if the CAN Link would go down; if I was fumbling with the CAN wirering. Sadly this is also not the case...

I'm a bit afraid that my SEVCON is dying.... Did anyone have a SEVCON dying in 5 years or after 21.000 km?

the first time it happend to my bike was apperently when it was charging. But only now I am noticing it when i'm driving.
It seems like

Funny thing this morning when i was getting the logs from my motorcycle. My SOC was going up. while getting the logs.
Down here you can find the BMS log.

The Pack SOC% is increating; while the Vpack is behaving as per normal. Does anyone know how the PackSOC is calculated? I always suspected it was related to the Vpack. But looking at this; there is propably a calculation taking the Current use into account.

"an entierly unque feature to zero motor cycles" Not sure what that means.

Not sure how it works on energicas; but do you have to start your bike with the kill switch in off posiiton?

But i actually do really like the fact that we live in a time where you get more functions simply because of a software update.
I don see a park mode aparing on my ICE bike which did not have it before

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Like my zero S! 400km in one day
« on: July 13, 2021, 10:03:47 PM »
I do not see a lot of positive posts in this forum. So I tough lets make one.  ;D

I'll start with the negative aspect first. It would be great if I would be able to charge my bike in an hour.
Thats it.  ;)

Now for the good parts. From least important to most important for me.
  • Drove 400km, cost me about €10?
  • Drove 400km, from one friend to another, to my parents, back to my place.
Most importantly, the charging fitted quite well in the plan. I went to my friends place. While being there I charged. Since staying for at least a few hours the bike was good to go when i was done.
  • It is comfy. I'm not that tall, and with this bike I can reach the floor properly. While riding I can sit in a quite comfortable position.
  • At the end of the day after 400km. I still liked driving the bike. Driving is not exhausting or hard work. It is enjoying the ride and the environment
  • It rides great!, I really like how smooth the ride is. I miss the characteristic vibration of an engine at times. But the smooth rides of the zero is also, simply amazing. It is like flying over the road.

What do you all like about your bikes?

Parts, Mods And Hacks / DIY Sidecase frame
« on: May 23, 2021, 06:45:02 PM »
Hey all,

what are your toughs?

So,,, I find the side case rack of zero a bit... meh, because of:
  • the 11 pounds at each side.
  • the fact that it takes a while to remove the rack
  • the new position of the turn light indicators

I went for the DIY version,, but now I am a bit stuck... Or, I'm not sure how to proceed.
The first start of the frame is in the pictures below. It is not finished yet, since I need to make the same parts at the other side. And at the back of the frame there will be a bar from left to right of the motorcycle (Red hand drawing). This to ensure the frame would not touch the the tire.

I'm not sure if I need to add another bar (the one in green) to ensure the case will not touch my rear break.

I'm also not sure which side case I want to use yet. Probably something like the image below since I have a Top case which is also in the same style.

Do you guys have any tips and tricks?
Things to look out for?

I'm mostly concerned about the width of the boxes. Anyway to ensure my side case will not hit the road when I'm in a turn?

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Wind screen comfort and range
« on: April 27, 2021, 05:15:29 PM »
Heey all,

I was wondering if you guys noticed any difference when using a windscreen. Do you notice a change in range?
How do you guys use your wind screen? and how do you sit behind your windscreen?

I attached some images of how I sit behind my screen.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Zero S, Handguards and Commuter screen
« on: December 30, 2020, 10:21:53 PM »
Heey all,

If you are like me and you want to your bike to fight the wind for you  ;) you might want to add an Commuter screen and Handguards to your motorcycle.
I have to say it makes commuting a lot more comfortable. Your hands will feel less cold.

While the Communter screen fits perfectly on the Zero S, the Handguards have a bit more trouble.

Since the commuter screens aluminium bars are in the way of the handguards mount there is need for some synergy (See the first image) . Some duct tape, bolts, nuts and a 3D printed part makes this synergy easy (See the second image).
Take note. At this point I am not sure how much of a hand guard, your handguards are. If you are crashing, the 3D printed will probably not hold back a lot of force. It will protect your hands a bit,, but don’t expect it to save your hands. If you do some math, you can determine how much you hands are protected. But I leave that up to yourself.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Zero S BMS cover plug
« on: December 30, 2020, 06:25:03 PM »
So I have my bike for a few months now and i noticed my BMS cover plug fell off during riding...  :(

To cite the exploded view: "BMS COVER PLUG, 22MM PANEL HOLE SIZE, 0.8MM-2MM PANEL THICKNESS"
()

So I 3D printed another one to put on. This time with the Zero Logo  ;)
File is attached. You might want to scale it to 99 or 98%

Disclamer, This is a DIY thingy, use at your own risk..... not sure if there is risk but still  :P

Hi all.

I am new here and since a few month the owner of a new Zero S 14.4 21kW from 2019.

I was wondering what your experiences are with driving 142 km. I manage to overcome it with 80km/h and about 11% left on the battery.
The specification state... that it should be possible to drive 145 km while driving 113km/h....

According to the manual the range depends on
  • Speed - 80km/h
  • Number of stops -  none,
  • flattnes of the land -  It is the Netherlands... over 145 there was a climb of 50m or so
  • smoothness of the pavement -  I guess the Netherlands have good pavements
  • riding style -  Really drove 80km/h for about 95% of the way
  • being streamlined -  I have a commute screen. and i myself am only 1,75m. I usually lean a bit forward.. not entiererly tucking behind the screen but most of the wind wil only reach my helmet
  • reduced cargo -  I am about 90 kg including my jacket and all
  • weather temperature -  about 1 - 5 degrees Celcius
  • amount of wind -  marginable
  • Dryness of the roads -  It had rained. When i drove it was not
  • tire pressure -  Have not checked that in a while. However I am able to ride comfortably
  • belt tension -  I have tensioned it about 300km ago
  • battery balancing -  I have left the charger in over night.

This was done 2 times over 2 days. The first time I had 11% of battery left. The second time about 14%.
  • What I noticed is that the battery percentage is decreasing quite fast at the start of the trip, and than slows down. Is anyone else noticing this? Does anyone know what the battery percentage indicates? Is it the battery voltage? or the Power capacity that is left?
  • Does anyone have experience with the range of the motorcyle when driving 113km/h? I don't think I will make it 141km when driving 113km/h....
  • With what speed do you think I could travel 142 km?  ;) :D - with the Zero S 14.4kW without powertank ofcourse

I look forward to your reactions.
And advice on how I can find out how fast I can travel 142 km.

With kind regards,
And have a nice christmas eve.

Edit. I have the answer!
It of course depends on the speed with which you drive and the ambient temperature as a quite significant influence.
In the Winter: 107 minutes at 80km/h
In the summer: 95 minutes at 90km/h

See post below for explenations
