Title: Condensed Information for those new to electrics

I'm relatively new to current electric technology, especially vehicle stuff.  I played with electric RC (planes and helicopters) so I am somewhat familiar with battery pack ratings and descriptions along with speed controllers and brushless motors.  I would think most people would have some knowledge of electrics but not the indepth knowledge that a few of the frequent contributors have.

If members are interested in contributing, I would like to write a sticky white paper that provides detailed descriptions of the different components for the 11, 12 and eventually 13 model year Zeros.  I would think the following topics would be a good starting point-

The following is a start from information I have found in different posts.  Please feel free to comment and I will make corrections.

Batteries - Number of Parallel / Number of Serial Cells - Cell Manufacturer/Capacity/Chemistry/Part Number

Model Year 2012
Uses EIG C020 LiPo Pouch Batteries 20 Amp Hour (Flyer - http://www.eigbattery.com/eng/product/C020.pdf (http://www.eigbattery.com/eng/product/C020.pdf))
ZF3 is 2 cells in parrallel with 18 of these in series for a total of 36 cells.  This appears to be a building block which is doubled in the ZF6 (72 cells total) and trippled in the ZF9 (108 cells)



BMS (Battery Management System) - command set, interface, DYI for dummies configuration and cabling


Motor - Manufacturer/Model Number/ Specifications
Model Year 2012  Uses the ME0913 PMAC motor  (Info http://www.motenergy.com/me0913.html (http://www.motenergy.com/me0913.html))

Model Year 2011
DS uses the agni95R motor



Speed Controller - Manufacturer/Part Number/Specifications - Firmware
Model Year 2012
Sevcon Gen4, Size 4, 3-Phase controller with a maximum output of 420A in their 2012 Zero S and DS models. The controller has dimensions of (LxWxH) 227 x 168 x 79 mm.

Model Year 2011
DS uses Alltrax AXE4855 of 500A

That sounds like a great idea to me.  Unfortunately, I am an electrical dummy and wouldn't be much help.  I recommend that you check out elmoto.net for a lot of technical information - which may require some sorting through before it becomes understandable.  In particular, liveforphysics, one of the developers of the Zero motorcycle line, has posted some interesting comments over the past 24 hours about the 2013 models, especially with regard to their motor and controller design.

I agree, a sticky info dump would be very helpful.

skadamo, the site admin mentioned that he was open to making certain posts sticky.

It'd be neat to have a wiki type post mixed in with the forum posts.
