Title: Sr/S Sr/F driver noise
Post by: garyjlavin on January 20, 2021, 02:19:57 AM
I just upgraded from a Zero SR to a new Zero SR/S and I notice that the dive is much noisier, on the SR/S especially in the 20 to 30 MPH range. I went back to the dealer and they got it a little quieter by centering the belt but still very loud.

Anyone else noticed this and had a resolution?

It seems to me like every time Zero increases the width of the drive belt, it gets louder. Then too, on my 2918 S it made a lot of noise for the first 1K mile until the belt broke in. Now it seems a lot quieter. The belt also makes more noise when it is tensioned at the upper range of Zero's recommendation.

I second that!
When I got my SR/F at first I was quite disappointed with the noise at the same 20/30mph.
After 700/800 miles and adjusting the belt to the lower end of the recommended  range, it got much better and I am happy with the bike now.
There is a lubricant you can use that helps a bit with the noise if you want to try that.

IMO, it's best to not put anything on the belt unless Gates says it is okay.

We already had one guy here who seemed to ruin his belt by putting a lube  on it.

Read the thread here. (https://www.electricmotorcycleforum.com/boards/index.php?topic=8808.0)

FWIW, I now have more than 12,000 miles on each my Zero belts. And I only check them once in a while ( a couple of months) for alignment and how much slack-- a ten second job the way I do it, which is to simply feel the belt  and look at the alignment.

Same experience here. My 2014 S was much quieter. My 2021 SR has upped the noise level. Wasn't sure what was causing it but good to know it's only the belt. I bought a belt tension tester and my belt is at the lower range for tension so not much can be done to alleviate that I assume. Hoping, as others have mentioned, that after some break in, the noise settles down more. I love my stealth when I ride!
