'Back Roads' for Zero Riding Near Jacksonville FL
« on: May 06, 2017, 07:16:09 AM »

I'm gonna be in Jacksonville, FL next weekend and my buddy says there aren't any back roads near him.  That's gotta be wrong....no?  Maybe we have different definitions of back roads.  I'm looking for roads that will be fun to ride my Zero.  ;D

Not that all roads aren't great for Zero riding but some are better than others.

Anyone know the good places to ride a Zero near Jacksonville?

Florida sucks for riding motorcycles unless you like flat, straight, sand covered roads.  I lived there 4 years and couldn't wait to leave.  The closest thing to anywhere decent to ride is in NW FL near the AL/FL border.

Maybe you can find some nice highway on/off ramps and clover leafs to play on.  That's about all I've ever found.

Well....flat can be okay if there's curves but so far I'm not finding much 😒

Looking on Google maps seems like heading towards the border between Florida an Georgia near Okefenokee National Forest might be okay but there's been wild fires and lots of smoke coming from that direction.

I have found a few roads that are ok for 2-3 miles but straight, flat and sandy seems to be spot on for the most part :-(

Yeah, sorry bud, mostly squid territory in FL.  I routinely drove 4-6 hours on weekends for track days and did multiple 8+ hour trips to ride in the Smokies because the street riding near where I lived (Destin area) was total garbage.  Not that it applies, but the MX riding down there is pretty sweet (except for sugar sand, F that).  There are a bunch of MX tracks and compared to where I'm at now in the greater Philly area, it is super cheap and pretty damn fun in the sunshine state.  As far as pavement though, good luck.  Here's a few sites I use to try to find good rides, might be worth a shot:

On the flip side:  ANY day on a motorcycle is better than a day trapped inside a car.  Just my $.02
