One important thing to remember is sure, products may exist out there that already accomplish the goal, like a giant DC-DC converter. But is it something that can fit on an EV? Is it IP67 water resistant, shockproof, and vibration resistant? Most of the times these are things meant to be on the ground or racks etc, not meant for the rigors of roads full of potholes and rain showers. And also needs to be as compact as possible.

No reason for hostility. I have no problem with a TeslaTap rep here; I think that's a good and useful thing. Hello, TeslaTap person!

Energica / Re: Traction control and regen battle?
« on: May 15, 2024, 05:20:45 AM »
I may have a lead on this. There's a wheel speed sensor on the rear wheel that I didn't know existed. If you look at the inner radius of your rear brake rotor you'll see a series of small rectangular cuts all the way around. Lined up with that on the right side of the swingarm is a small metric bolt which holds the wheel speed sensor in place.

A couple months ago I was wrestling with a rear tire change and getting the caliper and rotor to play nice. May have said some naughty words at the bike and wrestled it a bit but got it done. My bike started doing what you're describing. I told our very own Demoni on these boards (aka Head of Service US) and he informed me that I may have misaligned or even damaged the sensor. Not only that, I'm supposed to take the thing off before changing the tire so I don't damage it. Oops.

Anyway I was able to lazily shove some soapy water and paper towels/q-tips down there and it seems to be working fine now. But that would be the first place I'd look. And remove your wheel speed sensor before changing your rear tire, folks!

Energica / Re: FW version 43
« on: May 12, 2024, 12:42:25 PM »
Don is correct! I am wrong in this case. Firmware v.43 is not applicable to all Energica bikes. I asked around and found out that early VINs do not qualify. Like my bike. Thankfully I have a handy dandy qualification chart:

Quote
VIN numbers: ZNNP – ZNNR – ZNNT – ZNNL – ZNND – ZNNZ - ZNNF
These are the VIN prefix that can receive 043.

So check your bike if you have an older one, like me.

Ok well none of our bikes are doing that which is probably why there aren't lots of posts like this in the forum.

Energica / Re: Energica will be Plug & Play at Tesla Superchargers?
« on: May 06, 2024, 07:23:23 AM »
And I hear there are two reasons, Tesla has to has to open theirs up (the V3 & V4 that does NOT have Magic Dock) and the vehicle itself will need an update. Perhaps that will be Energica's V 44, someday.

I don't think the vehicle will need an update but I can't confirm. Rumor has it Stefano and crew have been seen meeting at top secret R&D charging labs to ensure full compatibility.

If I use a Tesla Supercharger that provides Magic Dock, but I use my own adapter instead, will it work?  I assume NOT, unless there is a way to remove their adapter and use mine. IOW, "charge your non-Tesla" does a lot more than only provide an adapter.

Actually that *does* work. Daren tested it at a SoCal Magic Dock station. Used the A2Z adapter and it worked perfectly.

Or did you manage to get it to work with a Tesla to CCS adapter (which I don't think is possible with the 43 FW) on a non-Magic Dock?

Man you *really* just don't want to believe me when I tell you that cannot happen until Tesla opens up their network.

Ahh did a little research - the Magic Dock is just the plug that can charge Tesla or other vehicles.  Plugshare does not seem to differentiate them.

It does. https://www.plugshare.com/map/tesla-ccs-locations

I am comparing him to steve jobs in that both of them treated their employees about the same.

With contempt and like slaves?

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Re: Zero fx dying power packs
« on: May 05, 2024, 03:10:14 AM »
Sorry man. That sucks. I've known owners with over 100,000 miles on their original packs. I've also seen what you're going through. Generally, unless someone abuses the pack, I would say in my experience the battery packs are fairly well-built and reliable. The vast majority of owners with functioning bikes don't come to forums like these and say, "hey just checking in everything is still awesome". And yeah there was a 5 year warranty on the pack, but that was 9 years ago. If this was me I'd just start casually looking out for used or crashed bikes that might have salvageable packs. Good luck.

You are comparing him to Steve Jobs, a man who famously terrorized his employees, abandoned his family, took credit for the work of others, painted himself as a genius, and died from a very treatable form of cancer that he thought he could cure by changing his diet. Interesting.

Charge the bike to full and do a balance cycle. Then ride the bike down and empty it all the way to 0%. Then, using a measuring device like a Kill-A-Watt meter, do a full charge again. Record how much power it used and report back.

Yeah he definitely did this. Nuked the 500 person SuperCharger team. And yeah it's looking like he's pouting because he wanted $55 billion and they said no, so he's just tearing shit down like an angry manchild.

This is really one of the main reasons Teslas are attractive at all as vehicles, because the SuperCharger network works incredibly well and has large deployments. Without it the company would have nothing. So he appears to be shooting the goose laying the golden eggs.

They are fully potted in epoxy as an anti-corrosion measure. You aren't getting in there and finding the bad cell. And again, the cell is brought up and balanced with the rest of the pack during a charge cycle, but it is so weak that it drops way before all the others even with the balance cycle.

And yeah this is more or less exactly what I suspected. The logs speak for themselves:

L:3066, l:3557, H:3300

Low cell voltage value 3.066vdc, high cell value of 3.300vdc. That's an imbalance of 234mV.
