Now that I've thought more about it, limiting speed that low could be a safety risk especially if you're not able to speed out of the way of a bad situation. Such as being hit from behind.

My 2017 dsr is the same.
That's a great idea though and I would make the suggestion to Zero. They've been very good at answering my emails and phone call. Perhaps  it's something they can add to a future firmware update or an app update.

Lucky you! I wish I can fit that on my DSR, but I'm afraid there's no room.

Double the battery capacity and only slightly more range than Tesla?  Yawn.
I am at least glad to see the range war is on. Even with E-motorcycles with Energica upping the ante with their 21.5 KWH battery. I wonder what Zero will have next for a battery KWH rating and range.

I agree. I believe Zero will up the capacity for 2021 as well. And from what I've been reading, Graphene and Solid State batteries are just around the corner. Graphene perhaps sooner than Solid State if they can get the cost down.

General Discussion / Why no electric bike shootouts on youtube?
« on: March 09, 2020, 08:44:29 AM »
Back in the day when I used to buy a new sportbike every other year, I always looked forward to seeing the latest shootouts of the new bikes in places like cycleworld and motorcyclist magazines. So why are there no shootouts between electric bikes?
We have Zero, Energica, Harley and um Lightening (cough, cough).
I see alot of talk of specs and reviews, but no honest to goodness shootouts by owners or by the major publications. If anyone knows of one, please post it.
Thanks

General Discussion / Re: an EV and the environment blog

I would love to analyze all the data they used to come up with those numbers. For example how much electricity is produce per gallon of oil at an oil-burning plant. I find it hard to believe that an ice vehicle is cleaner than an electric vehicle in Hawaii. But I'm far from an authority on the subject.

Lots of speculation on here. The important thing is that within 2 years, chevy, BMW and others are finally taking it seriously and many other ev's will be available. The compitition with battery tech range will only make things better.

Electric Motorcycle News / Re: Kymco EV concept

If the gearbox is the same one as in their Supernex bike, it's a clutchless shifting and actually sounds pretty cool in their video. I'm looking forward to seeing their bikes on the road. Kymco makes good bikes.

Anyone notice the mirrors on the srs almost blocked by the handlebars. That's something that concerned me from previous pictures. I realize his camera is mounted low on the side of his helmet, but it seems a short rider is really going to have problems seeing the mirrors. Handguards are definately not an option on this bike!

Since i only use my zero for commuting anyways and I can avoid the freeway altogether if needed, I think I'm going to get one. Supposed to be a blast to ride, of course not as much a blast as my zero. May e I'll buy two so I'll have a backup for my backup. 😊

That article is a year old, and I too don't believe the sales numbers for zero as zero seems to keep it a closely guarded secret.

Zero Motorcycles Forum | 2013+ / Re: Temperature impact on range
« on: March 03, 2020, 07:34:56 AM »
I ride in 100+ degrees in summer and down to freezing winter time at speeds around 35-45 mph. I get my best range of 140+ miles when it's over 100 degrees. At temps around 50-60 degrees, my range drops to about 120 miles. At temps 40 and below, my range drops to about 100 miles.
To me, thats a big negative for electric vehicles.
I have a 2017 dsr zf13.
So, some drop in range, but not half like I got.  :-/

Freeway speeds already cut your range in half compared to city driving so in cold weather it will be even worse.
