Title: SR/F front brake lever and bar end cap part numbers
Post by: gadgetgirl on November 04, 2019, 11:10:36 PM
Does anyone have the part numbers for the SR/F front brake lever and aluminum bar end caps? My neighbor accidentally backed into my bike and knocked it over this morning. It looks like the brake lever took the brunt of the fall. I saw silver levers in the unofficial manual, but the lever for my bike is black. I'll try calling AF1 Racing when they're open tomorrow too.

Brake lever from AF1 :

And the bar ends (picture is not right but should be the correct ones)

Thank you! Ouch $100 for a lever.

Hey all,

So ummm...  Just how, exactly, does a brake lever for a 2020 SR/F cost $157.60?  https://www.af1racing.com/Zero-MCs-Front-Brake-Lever-ZM25-08160

This is insane.  I finally dropped the bike today, after two years of ownership.  Tweaked the brake lever.  Sigh...

Has anyone found the J Juan part number and a place to order the lever?  What Zero is doing is criminal.

Thanks,

 - Fred

I suspect OEM prices on things like levers are high because insurance will pay the list price. If the money is coming out of your own pocket it might be worth looking at some nicer aftermarket ones.

Prices have certainly increased since I dropped my 2018 S while at a stop a few years ago. I broke the right foot peg off and ordered a new one from my dealer. I only paid around $25 for the entire foot peg assembly, which is the same as the passenger's foot peg, BTW. What you paid for your brake lever is even more than what BMW charges for their brake levers.  ???  I just checked the price of a new adjustable and dark grey anodized brake lever assembly for my BMW R1200RS and the retail price is $132.

BTW, a few months ago I bought an entire master cylinder, brake lever and brake light switch assembly, along with a new hose and connectors, for my Royal Enfield to replace the original parts that I thought were failing. The total cost, including shipping from the UK to California (the part arrived in only 3 days) came to $180.

I wonder if anyone has sucessfully converted to a Brembo RCS 19.  $290 including the lever.

I've spent $150 an ASV shorty's before but (a) those are fully adjustable (b) folding (c) short enough that they won't get broken in a drop.

Yet another thing to dislike about Zero's - lack of third party options due to their strange supplier choices.  I mean if you're going to go non-Brembo for price reasons, why not go with Nissin?  Sadly I can only suspect it's more vendor lock-in.  If you don't buy a replacement part / upgrade from Zero I bet they consider that a loss.

Welcome! You must be that guy who charged up at Markleeville, (https://www.plugshare.com/location/252833) the log-in just before mine.

My bike also dropped, once, last year. It was from my own wrongdoing and somehow I got stuck underneath. After waiting for 20 minutes shouting for help, finally someone heard me and came to lift it up.

I had no injuries, miraculously, because that bike is heavy. It was a slow drop thus there were only minor scratches on the handlebar cap end and at the bottom tip of the fork. I polished them "away". On the other hand I later noticed that the handlebar got slightly bent as well, so you might want to check that too.

At least you didn't get burns from a hot exhaust pipe while you were laying under your bike. Another win for EV tech.

Sad to hear from your accident. :'(

At least for the bar ends there should be  less pricey alternatives available. In the end it's not a safety-relevant piece on the bike, so no need to spend that much money on it.

The brake lever is surely something different, money is well spent on such a piece. You certainly do not want to fail it in case of an emergency braking due to crap material, so please stay away from the stuff offered at Aliexpress etc.

Regarding aftermarket prices: Someone added up what a complete Volkswagen Golf would cost if you would purchase the necessary parts over the car parts counter. The result was in the range of 120 k€. Aftermarket is a big profit generator for nearly every business.

If your HandBrake Lever is broken....
Check for a bent FootBrake Lever (in my case, it was the Transport Company  ::) )
