Title: How much did you pay for your Zero?
Post by: schleppy on June 22, 2016, 07:57:21 PM
I am looking very seriously at a Zero S or FXS this week. I rode a Zero back in 2012 and loved it. I can only imagine how much better they are now.

Do Zero dealers do their own discount pricing? Or do folks just pay MSRP or MSRP minus the Zero factory discounts?

Thanks all!

What is the normal price in your area? That looks like it's about $16,000 USD, which is more than a brand new SR here in the States.

The only way to get a discount on a Zero without screwing your dealer is to buy a demo model from the previous model year. Zero does not price these at a premium and the sale price is a good amount of the profit the dealer makes, so you won't be making friends by trying to haggle.

Unless discounted at the end of the season as a demo, I think just about everyone is paying MSRP. What makes a difference is whether the dealer charges you hundreds or even over a thousand dollars in "delivery" and "preparation" fees. Most do, some don't. I got written quotes in April from 4 dealers in 3 states around Washington DC. One asked for only $112 "out of state" fee on top of MSRP. The rest asked anywhere from $700 to $1,100 in "fees" (that is fees other than tax, title, and registration that you will need to pay regardless).

Some dealers will give you some discount on accessories if you buy your bike from them, so that needs to be factored-in if you plan to do so.

Used prices - they vary a lot.

Normal prize 2015 was 134.995dkr, but as of january 2016 the governrment in Denmark has started to tax electric vehicles, +20.000dkr.
A 2015 registred after january first 2016 the MSRP is 154.995dkr (model 2015) and from 2017 it'll probably be about 175.000 dkr.
Had to have it now.

Sounds like I'll be looking at MSRP then. Hopefully I can buy while the $1k discount is still in place. We'll see!

Thanks to all who chimed in.

I paid 145.000 NOK for my Zero SR, we don't have taxes on electric vehicles in Norway, so seems to be more than what you would pay in the States.. (145k is around 17.500 dollars, but the krone has plummeted in value the last year, and since 2010 the dollar has almost doubled for us...)

I bought a 2015 SR demo with 800 miles in rainy November 2015 for US$12,000 out the door (all fees included).

I had it shipped from out of California which saved me ~$2000.

For what it's worth, I know of two '15 SRs, both with about 500 miles on them at the time, that sold this Spring in New York State for $9K USD from private parties (if you search eBay you will likely find the auction for one of them). I consider this a fairly good price for a virtually new used SR. Dealers were asking over $11K for similar "demo" bikes at the same time... Add tax, title, registration, shipping to those prices.

Those are good deals.  Private party is the way to go if you can.  Rare for Zero's.

A dealer is always going to try to add fees even if it is a Demo bike.   Fees like destination charge, documentation fee, assembly fee, are all bogus and that is why you should always try and negotiate on 'out the door price' with all the fluff included.

I wish I could find a private party deal. I haven't found a single Zero S or SR for sale in the Northeast in a while. Those are smokin' deal!

Yup,

They don't come-up on the used market much. I've seen some of the 2012-13 models, but the current crop ('14, '15, '16) are rare. They are good bikes and unless someone was totally confused about what they are or their situation changes unexpectedly, they are keeping them. The one eBay was sold due to relocation (the guy also was selling his Tesla at the same time). The other one was a "trouble bike" that needed warranty service and the owner did not want to deal with it (so again, an unusual situation).

I liked working with Rahn.  I paid the same fees when I purchased my DSR from him in March.  Interesting shop!

Just bought mine today!  No deals whatsoever, $15,995 for the SR, fees for delivery and no breaks on accessories, even charged $150 to install power trunk. They said Zero couldn't install it at the factory when they are making my bike.  That's a bunch of bull.

I got a break on the setup. $450 for shipping from Santa Cruz to the Bay Area was ridiculous though.

That's my dealer, too. Sales seems a bit like that, but I like the service department better than SF Moto's - they seem much easier to deal with and more interested in Zeros.

They gave me no deal on a demo in the rainy fall.

San Jose Zero/BMW is not for me either.

I got my SR at Contra Costa Powersports in December of 2014 and it may have been among the first sold in the country. It was certainly the first one (and i think the first Zero) that they sold. I paid MSRP. i can't remember if there were add-ons but I think there was something. I was willing to pay though. I know that motorcycle shops don't make a huge margin on bikes and I liked getting one of the first '15s so I didn't try to haggle much - which is not like me. It just seemed like a special bike and worth it. However when I bought my Honda they gave me a very good deal as well as $500 more than anyone else would give me on my trade-in bike so overall they treated me well. They do value returning customers.

I paid 17.3 OTD for a 16 SR. Taxes in California suck. Msrp, taxes, license and registration. No other fees.

Interesting, Brian, I had the opposite experience regarding service. I guess different people prefer different approaches. SF Moto came up with the KLX idea for the brake squeal.

That's interesting - maybe SF Moto is more skilled/experienced across the board but haven't figured out Zero-specific issues as well. Definitely use the shop that works best for you!

That seems like a pretty good deal. Where did you buy the bike? I was quoted 16.5 OTD for a 2016 S
