Title: First "wheelie" with my SR
Post by: Kocho on July 07, 2016, 07:06:26 AM
Well, while the front wheel did technically come off the ground, I probably should not call it a "wheelie" :(

While I am one of these people who are happy that the SR can't wheelie unintentionally, dropping me on my back, I also want to have a bit more fun on occasion. In Sport mode, when going over large speed bumps, I found I can twist the throttle and use the push from the bump to lift the front wheel a little in the air. So that's my first wheelie ;)

I also managed for a first time today, not intentionally, to break traction on a dry road with the rear wheel while doing hard acceleration after a turn. Was not scary at all, since I was almost straight-up and the tail did not do anything too extreme - just a quick letting me know that traction was past its limit...

I'm seriously thinking of taking some sort of motorcycle class where they teach technique and in particular how to handle the bike at and past the limit, so I can get a feel for where the limit is in a safe environment ... Maybe I'll need to add some crash protection to the bike before I do that though...

Yes, the SR and DSR can wheelie over bumps. Just be careful not to spin up the wheel mid-flight and jerk the belt on landing!

I wish the SR could wheelie better

The SR  will wheelie on uphills if you lower the gearing so top speed (at 6000rpm)  is 130kph or lower

Yeah...The SR and the FXS.
When you have a sport model that cannot even wheelie at full throttle, its more of a commuter model. When you claim one is a supermoto, it better wheelie on demand. lol.

The FXS doesn't wheelie?   The FX does it quite good 😀

A+

it wheelies in the same way I can make a 50cc scooter wheelie. You move yourself to load everything, and bounce it up.
It does not wheelie like you would do with a conventional dirtbike or supermoto, where you can just throttle/clutch it up.. nor does it have the power to powerwheelie up.

so can it get the wheel up? yes.
can it realistically lift it to clear an obstacle at the last minute like an enduro? no.
can it wheelie up like a stunter? no.

yup. no ham fisted wheelies on the FXS. it WILL do wheelies, you just have to put in a little more effort and technique.

laters,

I was surprised to hear that the FXS wasn't a real supemoto. My 2015 FX will definitely lift the front wheel easily !

Yes the FX lifts anywhere from 10 to 80kmh and you have to be careful not to flip over.

But I manage now to control its tendency to flip over and I can do a single  10 to 100km/h wheelie accélération.

To much of a chicken to stabilize yet...

That's disappointing about the new FXS.   Because of the new motor or software limited?

I think the main reason is that the FXS rides lower, but since I'm not a wheelie person I could be wrong ...

It doesn't wheelie on demand.
Losing traction on hard acceleration is very easy.

This vloger got it to wheelie, he says that it feels like the power delivery changes once you get up to speed and then it can wheelie.
