I tried to read the range information from my 2013 Zero S. With monitoring command ATMA I can see most of the mentioned IDs like 0x080, 0x181 or 0x188. Unfortunately there is no entry with ID 0x440. I think its not there because the 2013 S doesn't show the remaining range on the display.

I then tried to ask the modules connected to the CANBUs for values. For known IDs (e.g. 0x188) the ELM 327 answered with "NO DATA". For the required 0x440 it doesn't answer at all, neither with "?".

I think there should be a message with the remaining capacity. With 2 constant values (min, max) for my average Wh/km I can calculate an estimated range.

Is there anything else I can try?

I use the touring screen since 4 weeks . My commute consists of 18km at a speed of 90km/h and 2km at a speed of 50km/h . Before using the screen my consumption was 59Wh/km, now it is 53Wh/km . The wind pressure is greatly reduced , but the volume of the wind has not (essentially) become quieter.

Also for MY13 you can use a USB-UART converter to communicate with the MBB.

I followed the same thread that rDacted mentioned (http://electricmotorcycleforum.com/boards/index.php?topic=4296.0) for building an adapter for my Zero 2013 S and it works.

Got my bike back last week with a new 12,5kW battery. I am very happy about the 10% increased range.

They changed the firmware and my eco mode settings has been reset. Charges without problems. As the bikes log file mentioned the firmware was written for replacement with 14MY battery, I am happy they have choosen to use a zf12.5 version.

It was transported from Germany to the Netherlands within only a few days back and forth.
The replacement was done within 3 days there.

But the communication between my dealer and Zero previously took nearly 2 months.
I think this can be improved  ;)

After the first ride and charge I checked the logs of my bike. I am surprised that I found a few warning messages about low isolated cells within the NEW battery. Is this normal?

Within the old log there are errors shortly before the battery died:
- BMS Isolation Fault        BMS: 0
- Low Chassis Isolation      98 KOhms to cell 4

The new battery has similar warnings(until now no errors):
- Low Chassis Isolation      99 KOhms to cell 3

Should I be worried that the new Battery will die soon too?

Yes, I am eligible for the replacement program. I have first contacted my dealer 5 weeks ago and I don't have a appointment for the replace until today. Not sure how long this lasts...  :-\

This problem stops me from using my bike until Zero replaced the battery. So I was hoping someone here has a quicker solution/hint for me.

What I have learned is that the charger doesn't have a direct connection for balancing the battery. So the failure seems to be on the BMS only while in charging mode.

Does someone have more informations about the BMS mode of operation? Some sort of connecting diagram?

After my last ride a few days ago I tried to charge my Zero S 2013. But this time that doesn't work.
Since the blinking code is not mentioned within the user manual, I read out the complete log of my bike and tried to find whats going wrong.

I think I found a hint within the logs.

Within the log there is shown an error:
BMS Disable - Low Bat      pack sum: 106814 mV, capacity: 71%, module: 0, status: 0x3B60

This was interesting because 106814mV doesn't seem to be "low bat".

Within the BMS status information I then found:
  - Bank Voltages             :     1    2    3    4    5    6    7    8    9   10   11   ...
                              :  3825 3824 3824 3824 3827 3826 3826 3827 3828 3846 3829 ...
  - Lowest Cell Voltage       :  3824 mV ( Cell 2 )
  - Highest Cell Voltage      :  3828 mV ( Cell 9 )
  - Pack Balance              :  4 mV

Everything seems to be ok. But this was in driving mode and driving works even now.

I put the charging cable on and read the bikes informations again.


The BMS information now states:
  - Bank Voltages             :     1    2    3    4    5    6    7    8    9   10   11   
                              :  3830 3828 3828 3834 3809 3845 3830 1067 6234 3846 3829
  - Lowest Cell Voltage       :  1067 mV ( Cell 8 )
  - Highest Cell Voltage      :  6234 mV ( Cell 9 )
  - Pack Balance              :  5162 mV

OOps, it seems as soon as the charger connects the balancing measures for cell 8 and 9 becomes strange.

I don't know enough about the bikes internal connections but for me it seems to be something like a short within the charger balancing connections.

Does someone already have had this problem?

Hi everyone, I bought a used Zero S 2013 in September 2015, because I like the idea of driving more efficient electrically.
There were a few minor problems I had within these few months, but generally I am satisfied with the bike.
Since a few weeks I am a silent readonly user of this great forum.
It teaches me a lot of helpfull informations about my new bike.
